Why you ask? Great question…
With all the cruise lines on hold, it gives me a chance to reflect on some important events in our culture. Memorial Day is coming up - and did you know the Friday before Memorial Day is National Poppy Day? Poppy Day is celebrated in countries around the world. The American Legion brought National Poppy Day® to the United States by asking Congress to designate the Friday before Memorial Day, as National Poppy Day. (Source of information Legion.org)
Poppies for remembrance of Memorial Day were inspired by a poem written by John McCrae in 1915. McCrae served in WW1, and at the burial of his friend, Lt. Alexis Helmer, McCrae noticed poppies growing around the artillery position. Please read the poem below, and take a moment to honor all the men and women who have served our country, given the ultimate sacrifice and provided great freedom.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
God Bless everyone. Thank you to all our Service Men and Women, and all the families who have sacrificed so greatly!
