Our Adventure Wrap Up
We travelled a total of 1900 km in 8 days.
Being our first big trip, we loved every bit.

THE BEST ATTRACTION- Australian Stockmans hall of fame

CLEANEST/NEATEST PARK- Conway Beach

FRIENDLIEST PARK - Longreach Caravan Park

FRIENDLIEST TOWN- Pentland

What we learnt:
Australia is very very dry!
Need to have aircon in the bus/van
Listen to fellow travellers and pick up all their tricks
Share our knowledge with others too
Apply sunscreen to arm as it gets burnt through window
Need to have awning
We can live in a confined space and not have a single argument 😊
We learnt something new every day!
Millie loves travelling, and is always a winner with fellow campers🐾
This definitely not our only trip- there will be more to come

Day 8- Today we head home, we are sad that your trip is at the end, we have loved every minute of the time we have spend travelling through the Central West Queensland towns.

Millie relaxed outside the bus after a morning walk along the beachfront, while we packed up before going to have some breakfast in the ‘50s Diner’. It was very cute and the food was amazing.

We then headed out and travelled to Airlie Beach where we ran into Trisha in the car park. Millie enjoyed her walk through the very busy tourist hub. We then hopped back in the bus for the last stint to home.

Day 7- It will be our last night in Kirby! We can not believe it has gone so quick. Today we left Ayr to go closer to home as we are booked in to stay at Conway Beach. Travelled over the Burdekin Bridge, such a solid structure and so high up it is hard to believe that when Townsville flooded this bridge was under water. It’s a dry river bed at the moment.

We stopped and surprised Jenni and Barry, after a quick coffee we we on our way. Conway Beach is so lovely, peaceful, family orientated and relaxing. Very pleased we decided to spend the night.

Day 6- Today was a day of travelling again. Unfortunately we had to go back to get fuel as many of the smaller towns have now had their fuel supplies closed down and only the main towns have supplies. Due to this we lost a bit of time.

Travelled from Pentland to Ayr where we stayed for the night. Had a lovely walk along the main streets and dinner was at a small Chinese restaurant. We are sad that our trip is coming to an end with only 1 more stop before home.
Miss Millie is really making herself at home in the bus. 🐾

Day 5- We started our day visiting the Watlzing Matilda Centre. It is very good and has the history and so many versions of the unofficial national anthem’Waltzing Matilda’
Again we found a piano every town we have stayed in there has been a piano in there towns main attraction .

There was lots of the towns historical memorabilia, buildings and information on the development of the area. In the gallery was a stunning display of images called ‘Flanders’ showing the past and present in the one picture. Truely amazing they way they have been done.

So as for the weather, well, today has been wet so we decided to use the time to drive to our next place. We passed a massive solar farm 60 000 panels in Hughenden. It just went on forever 83 acres along with it a wind farm of 200 turbines. 2 emus decided to run along the road in front of us, no photo they were too quick.

We stopped and stayed in a little town called Pentland. It is one of tiny little places most people just drive past on their way to the next bigger town. Population 300 people and 1 pub. It has been a fantastic time, the food - so big, the local people- friendly, welcoming and full of so many stories.

Millie is looking forward to getting out and having a walk when it is dry, she doesn’t like wet paws 🐾

Day 4- Wow what an amazing day! We started by going to the Australian Stockmans Hall of Fame. Highly recommend for everyone heading to or going through Longreach to take the time to go through especially the self guided gallery.

The amount of information given for each section is phenomenal and there is no way you will remember it all. I actually asked if there was a book they did that I could buy, they thought this was a great idea but not at this stage. So our photos and we took lots will need to suffice to help us remember.

We left Longreach and headed to Winton, along the way we got to see real life droving of cattle 🐄. One thing we are constantly commenting on is how clean there towns are and the pride the community takes in there streets. Winton’s Main Street has lots of displays back to their past.

Day 3- we had a lovely day,we don’t have any photos sorry. We left Barcaldine and drove the short distance to Longreach. As it was a public holiday most things were closed, however, we caught up with a dear friend/colleague who now lives in Longreach Erin and her adorable little girl Jade. Millie came with us to lunch at the Tavern, then Erin drive us sound her lovely little town, pointing out all the great non touristy parts. After she dropped us back to our bus in the caravan park we joined the other travellers for ‘afternoon tea’. It was great to share stories and learn from each other. We really enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend the ‘Longreach Caravan Park’

Day 2- We started by finding the ‘piano in the tree’, also the tree stump with the mark of the flood level. Shayne standing beside it to show the height perspective. We then had a day of travelling on the road. We ended up going from Clermont to Barcaldine. Stopping in at Alpha to have some lunch.

Interesting as we drove along that the locals seem to like the termite mounds as they dress them up. Some look so cool! It is great to have something different to see as we go along.

In Barcaldine we visited the ‘Knowlege Tree’ where the famous shear’s strike happens this in turn then becoming the location where the Labor party was started. There are 1000 Shearing posts hanging above the tree. 1 for each of the shearer’s who went on strike for their rights.

We are planning only a short distance tomorrow to Longreach where we are hoping to settle for a couple of days to do some real sight seeing.
Millie has found her favourite place in the bus for watching everything.
Totally enjoying loving it so far😊🐾

Day 1
So we headed out a little later than expected, our first stint was Mackay to Clermont. All went well with the trip, needed to pull over for the big load that took up the whole road. Went sightseeing in Clermont to find the famous piano in the tree, (still looking) it was left there back when the town flooded in 1916. We will see if we can find it on our way out of town tomorrow. Had a lovely walk with Miss Millie around the lagoon and saw some amazing dedications to the towns past including their famous ANZACs. Had a great meal at the local pub while Millie guarded to bus. Time to settle down for the evening and plan for tomorrow. Millie already sleeping.

At 7am we collected Kirby the cruiser and Shayne drove him home. We have loaded our things in and set it up ready to do the first stint of our trip. Miss Millie also made sure she had her favourite toys ‘babies’ for the trip. She definitely knows something is happening. Our excitement level is 8. .
