A week and a day into volunteering and i think we've delivered to maybe 100 people for water and just general checkups. Kelly Morris is friend for life and it's really hard when you're here trying to find the "right" place to be - everyone needs so much help.
All my good friends who have sent me $ to help people when i see, first hand, who needs it... God bless you!!!! Beth, Petra, Dandy, John, JoAnne and many more (who asked me not to mention) you have all made a difference - you've made people cry just knowing someone cares.... Together we have helped. I have a week n half more - I'm just glad I'm healthy enough to do this. Giving love and feeling loved❤️

It’s been three weeks since Tropical Storm Helene, and our five mountain communities—Maggie Valley, Waynesville, Canton, Clyde, and Lake Junaluska—are making incredible progress! 💪

We’re happy to announce that Hwy 276, NC 215 are now open for safe and careful drives, offering stunning fall views.🍁 Additionally, the Pisgah National Forest will reopen the Pisgah Ranger District on Friday, October 18. However, some routes like the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cataloochee Valley remain closed—check DriveNC.gov for updates and drive safely.

🚧 Cherokee, NC Visitor Travel Update: We’re Open and Ready to Welcome You! 🚧

Our thoughts are with all those affected by Hurricane Helene. While Western North Carolina is dealing with various road closures and damages, Cherokee is open and welcoming visitors! Please review the latest travel information to plan a safe trip.

Current Road & Park Updates:

I-40: Closed near the NC-Tennessee border due to severe storm damage, with repairs expected to take months. Detours are available via I-81 or I-77.

I-26: Closed at the Tennessee state line, with local detours in place.

U.S. 64: Closed near Cullasaja Gorge, between Buck Creek Road and Brush Creek Road, due to embankment damage. Passenger vehicle detours are in place via Buck Creek Road, but trucks are prohibited.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP): Open to regular traffic into Cherokee, NC. Note that commercial vehicles are always prohibited on park roads, including Newfound Gap Road (U.S. 441).

Blue Ridge Parkway: Fully closed throughout North Carolina and Virginia.

U.S. 74: Open, but with limited access due to ongoing debris clearance.

Deals Gap (Tail of the Dragon): Open to regular traffic; commercial vehicles are prohibited.

US28 from Robbinsville: Open with construction ongoing.

US19 from Bryson City and US441: Both routes remain open, providing access to Cherokee.
