The D*na festival will be back this year. On these days Dénia celebrates their status of UNESCO city of gastronomy.

Normally at this time of year during the Fallas fiesta, on the night before Saint Joseph’s day, around 110 kilos of gunpowder is set off in 5 minutes in Dénia (La mascletà). Earplugs are essential 😉🎆💣🙉

The coming week should have been the most important week of the 'Fallas'. Due to Covid-19 it was cancelled last year and is this year (for now) postponed to September. It is a beautiful festival with huge papier mache constructions (fallas), exquisitely costumed ladies and deafening fireworks. On the final night of Fallas, around midnight, these fallas are burnt as huge bonfires. This is known as La Cremà (the Burning), the climax of the whole event, and the reason why the constructions are called fallas ("torches"). It's definitely worth a visit. See some photos in comments.

Fallas festival in Denia is lived with a great variety of acts such as the "crida" announcing act, parades, “planta” the assembly of the monuments, "mascletaes" pyrotechnic festivals, fire festival, the flower offering to the Virgen de los Desamparados and the “cremà” burning of the monumen...
