I just refinished this table and I love the way it turned out with the grain sack stripes! The “before” table was beat up looking. I added a little Rethunk Junk stain top to the wood finish, painted the top a custom mixture of a dark blue with enough black to make the navy really dark and painted stripes on the drawer front and bottom shelf.

Landscaping updates are looking good!

Here’s what the old dug up plumbing trench looks like now that I made it into a walkway. It’s been filled in with mulch temporarily, until I can afford a load of gravel! 🤣 We planted 4 blue hydrangeas on the left by the fence and I plan to stagger some boxwoods in front and put boxwoods on the right side as well.

Officer Merriweather stopped by today to tell us his grandfather owned this house for over 20 years and he used to play here as a boy. We also learned that his grandfather was in the concrete business so that explains all of the concrete in the back. We’ve been clearing all of the brush and uncovering the concrete all day and I will share photos of the results tomorrow.

Chattanooga Bucket List: Ride the Tennessee Valley Train

Missionary Ridge Local trips begin at the Grand Junction depot and take passengers along one of the original railroad lines into Chattanooga, crossing bridges and diving through the Missionary Ridge Tunnel before arriving at the other side of our museum, East Chattanooga.

The train stops at East Chattanooga, allowing riders off the train to watch the locomotive rotating on a turntable and participate in a tour of the railroad restoration shop before re-boarding for the return trip. Round trip time is slightly less than one hour - a great introductory train ride for kids!

In addition, there is a nice outdoor area with picnic tables and a wooden train for the kids to play on. Next time we’re going to bring a picnic!

This is a really fun adventure for kids and adults alike! How do I know? Because we did this today and had a blast.

In researching essential oils, I learned there is one called Rose of Sharon. I just happen to have quite a few Rose of Sharon plants on my property here in Chattanooga.  I think this oil will definitely have to be a part of my custom blend for The House of Hyssop’s merchandise.

Unfortunately even with the hammer drill I was unable to get the screws in the concrete! I have a railing up but I wouldn’t exactly describe it as usable at the moment!
