✈️ Kelowna to Reykjavik for CA$665 Round Trip 🌋 🇮🇸

I spotted this 10-day itinerary from Kelowna (YLW) to Reykjavik (KEF) with WestJet for just CA$665 round trip (Ultrabasic Fare) on the specific dates listed below. There are some other dates available for approx $700.  Late May is a great time to explore Iceland’s natural wonders, when the days are long (~20hrs) and the landscapes are alive. Late May is also the start of Iceland’s puffin season. And 10 days is enough time to allow you to drive the famous ‘Ring Road’ and explore some sights off the beaten path.  This is not the cheapest I’ve seen this route, but it’s decent. Last year, the price dropped to just $583 for dates in July and August, so this price is only $82 more, per person. I say anything under $700 to Europe is a solid buy, and I just spotted this sneaky fare for a week away in the city of lights, at just $604 (WestJet Ultrabasic Fare)  The Jardin des Tuileries Christmas Market ( ) runs from November 16, 2024 to January 1, 2025, and I understand it’s a great way to get into the Christmas spirit (even if you do have to pay to use the washrooms)  Here’s an inexpensive trip to surprise your boo with a short romantic (jet-lagged) getaway:

Ready to trade in the cold Okanagan winter for tropical beaches and lush rainforests?  I wasn’t sure I’d ever see sub-$500 Costa Rica pricing again, but here we are. ✈️ Kelowna to Tokyo for $792 🎌🌸
 Here’s a low-cost way to travel from Kelowna to Tokyo this fall, and early winter.  .tokyo_official (JAL’s low cost carrier) has just dropped prices between Vancouver and Tokyo, with flights going for just $667.

On many of these same dates, you can find cheap flights to/from Vancouver for $125 with (Ultra basic fare).

That’s just $792 which is a great price!  Note: There is risk in that you need to book the tickets separately, and that WestJet and ZipAir are not affiliated. This means neither airline understands your entire itinerary, and they have no obligation to get you on each other’s flights. So be cautious if you book. Looking to explore Ecuador?   Here’s a risky itinerary that takes you from Kelowna to Toronto, then off to Guayaquil, Ecuador, and back—all for just CA$508!

🚨 $795 to Lima, Peru - November Travel 🚨

There are a few dates in the fall available to fly from Kelowna to Lima, Peru for $795.  Lima is far. To give you a sense of distance;  Kelowna to Dublin = 6,945 km Kelowna to Tokyo = 7,742 km Kelowna to Lima Peru = 8,026 km!
 As a result, $795 feels like a good price. Plus it’s spring in November, with temps hovering around 22°C. 
This flight uses both WestJet, and LATAM airlines.

Departure: Wed, Nov 6, 2024:
Leave Kelowna at 6:20 am. There are 2 stops. 1 hr 23 min layover in Calgary (YYC), and a 6 hr 8 min layover in New York (JFK). Total travel time of 21 hr 35 min. You arrive in Lima at 6:55 am the next day. 
Return: Tue, Nov 19, 2024:
Depart Lima at 12:50 am, 2 stops again. 6 hr layover in Los Angeles (LAX), and a 1 hr 36 min layover in Calgary (YYC). Total travel time being 21 hr 9 min travel time. You arrive back in Kelowna at 6:59 pm.

✈️ Kelowna to Bangkok for CA$1,185 🇹🇭

I’m seeing flights from Kelowna to Bangkok for just CA$1,185 [Economy fare]. This price is several hundred dollars cheaper than usual! I also see dates in Feb and March around $1,240.

Flying to Asia isn’t cheap, and this fits my criteria of decent price.

I also like the following itinerary (shown below) because there is a 19 hour overnight stop in Singapore that gives you time to quickly explore that city… And if you ever HAD to sleep at an airport, there is literally no place better than Changi. That airport is beautiful.

A taxi downtown costs about $35 and takes roughly 30 mins. You can also take the MRT.

Also, some of the travel is on Cathay Pacific, which is a great airline.

Sample Travel Dates (13 Days):

Departure: Tuesday, September 24, 5:55 AM from Kelowna (YLW).
Stops in Vancouver (4:40 hours) and Hong Kong (2:30 hours). Total flying time: 24 hours 40 minutes.
Arrival: Wednesday, September 25, 8:35 PM in Bangkok (BKK).

Return: Monday, October 7, 11:15 AM from Bangkok (BKK).
2 stops. 1 in Singapore (18:40 hours) and Vancouver (2:05 hours). Total flying time: 38 hours 43 minutes. Overnight layover in Singapore.
Arrival: Tuesday, October 8, 11:58 AM in Kelowna (YLW).

🌎 How To Fly to South America for Less ✈️

Looking to explore South America on a budget?

Arajet might be an option for you if you’re after the cheapest, no-frills transportation.

Arajet is a Dominican-based airline founded in 2022. It could be classified as an ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC), so manage your expectations—the experience is very basic, but the sale prices can offer a really affordable way south.

The trick for Kelowna travellers to maximize savings would be to find two airfare deals at the same time:

A. First, find a cheap flight from YLW to YYZ. These can often be had for as little as $170 CAD.

B. Then, see if you can wrap that flight around a discount fare with Arajet, who frequently has deals from Toronto.

For example, in the past I’ve seen:

> Toronto to Guayaquil, Ecuador 🇪🇨 starting at $292 CAD roundtrip (No bags included)

> Toronto to Lima, Peru 🇵🇪 starting at $360 CAD roundtrip (No bags included)

> Toronto to San Paulo, Brazil 🇧🇷 starting at $318 CAD round trip (No bags included)

So. With the right timing, low expectations, no bags, and “raw-dogging” the entertainment; you might be able to fly to South America for as little as $462. Roughly 60% off a typical flight.

If you try this, keep in mind you’d need to book separate tickets, and you’d want to plan your flights to account for flight delays and issues.

Looks like Air Canada and WestJet are trying to out-price each other on this route.

Air Canada had flights costing $361, and WestJet just dropped their prices for flights from Kelowna to St. John’s, Newfoundland to $345 (UltraBasic fare)

*According to fellow Kelowna travel deal hunter Chris Myden, this price would be the lowest fare ever recorded between these two cities.

Spotted this promo code which is good for 35% off flights on , for travel in British Columbia between Oct 27, 2024 and April 26, 2025.

You can see on the route map, direct flights exist between YLW and Comox, Nanaimo, and Victoria. Other destinations will have you connecting in Victoria or Vancouver (South terminal if I’m not mistaken)

It’s easy to forget that this is an airline that has been serving BC for nearly 40 years!

I personally haven’t flown with them… yet, but I’d love to experience flying on one of their smaller Saab (2/1 seating config) or Beechcraft aircraft (1/1 seating config). I bet it’s a whole different vibe.

I just got back from Iceland a week ago and loved it.
I paid about $80 more for my flight.

Warning: I did find it expensive upon arrival, and would recommend doubling the price of everything. (Eg. Your $5 latte could be as high as $10)

Pro tip: Share a Pizza and eat from convenience stores to save some $.

In case you are curious…

A. For hotel pricing, I searched 3 star hotels, central city locations, greater than 3.5 guest ratings, and had ChatGPT analyze the results to get an average price. It’s not a perfect science, but it was fast.

B. Airfares were easier to determine, but it took some playing around to find a cheap way to Bangkok. That price would involve booking separate tickets to Japan. And then another separate round trip from Tokyo to BKK.
