Lots of rain the past few days, but the stillness and greenery is still breathtaking. Tenmile Lakes elevation has gained 6’ in the last 5 days. 🌈

Thankful for the kayaker's paradise on Tenmile Lake in Lakeside – with Fall colors all around, the sun kissing the water, and crisp fresh air. ☀️🍁🍂

What are king tides?

-King tide is a term used to refer to an especially high tide. King tides are simply the very highest tides. Additionally, the low tides that occur at this time are the very lowest tides.

-The king tides occur when the earth, moon and sun are aligned at perigee and perihelion, resulting in the largest tidal range seen over the course of a year.

-During King Tides some beach accesses can be closed, and for good reason. The water can approach out of nowhere, a phenomenon known as sneaker waves. Sneaker waves can catch people, pets and children off guard and pull them off their feet and out to the ocean. Always keep pets on leash, and children close during sneaker wave events, like the king tides.

-Logs are an extra danger during king tides. These high tides come far up beaches tossing large logs like small sticks. It only takes 4 inches of water to move a 5-ton log!! Rolling logs on the Oregon Coast can kill very quickly.
