OUR FIRST CLIENT TESTIMONIAL 😍

We have just had our first guests return from Tanzania and Kenya and we are beyond delighted at the extraordinary trip that was had! Planning a safari takes time, and the majority of the work happens long before anyone travels. Having started Kutwelo last year, we have been patiently waiting for the first journeys to begin and finally we are away 🙌🏽

Are we the only ones who feel hyena get an unnecessarily bad rap? We blame the Lion King entirely for this, but hyena deserve some of the limelight too!

Always depicted as the conniving and unscrupulous villains, hyena are made out to be the lowest on the food chain. Often scavengers, and at times incredible hunters and apex predators, hyena do also have a soft side that we find utterly pleasurable to watch.

One of our favourite experiences whilst on safari is spending time at a hyena den. Watching these incredibly adorable hyena cubs peeking their tiny heads out of the termite mound, looking unto the world with total curiosity, is something that will never get old. Their playful nature and nurturing spirits certainly warm the soul and give us a glimpse into the lives of this fascinating creature that gets so often overlooked.

Ebony Lodge, situated in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve in South Africa, has recently reopened after undergoing a renovation and it looks incredible! The updates have been tailored to cater to the evolving preferences of modern guests, all while staying faithful to Singita’s heritage, which began 30 years ago. The renovated main guest area boasts new features such as a wine cellar and a Conservation Room, alongside multiple expansive lounge and deck spaces that promote a seamless and undisturbed flow, offering guests uninterrupted vistas of the surrounding landscape.

The layout of the main lodge has been rearranged to create a greater sense of space and fluidity. The chunky, rounded shapes of Adobe architecture (inspired by North and West Africa) combined with thatch, timber and canvas elements, and views of the Sand River, give the lodge a laid-back and light-filled feel.

Ebony is perfectly situated on the iconic sand river and offers a front row seat to some of the best game viewing on the continent. Combined with its new pared-down look of natural fabrics and softer colours inspired by nature, Ebony Lodge provides a tranquil space which both nurtures and offers a foundation for memorable wilderness adventures.

The legend of the Kalahari 🙌🏽

Have you ever dreamed of a front row seat to one of the greatest shows on earth? 💫

The Great Migration of Wildebeest is a spectacle like no other. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest journey across the Serengeti and Maasai Mara, following the rains and good grazing, battling predators and taking on astonishing river crossings. A never ending cycle that plays out year after year, offering some of the most exhilarating game viewing on the continent.

Our camp of choice when focusing on experiencing the migration is Serengeti Under Canvas. A semi-mobile tented camp, moving five times a year to better enable guests close access to this extraordinary phenomenon. Our top tip for experiencing the Great Migration: while many people flock to the Serengeti in July-September to hopefully bear witness to the crossing of the Mara River, we highly recommend a visit in February-March. Serengeti Under Canvas will be positioned in the southern areas of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation areas, in the open plains of Ndutu. During a few week period, the herds settle in these great plains and hundreds of thousands of wildebeest calves are born.
