Mehmet Sağgün and Suzie visited Pınara Antik Kent near Fethiye, another hidden gem. Pınara was part of the Lycian Federation, later it became an episcopal center in Byzantine times. It was abandoned in the 9th century. It is an untouched, beautiful mountain setting with remains of a bath, agora, odeon, acropolis, heart-shaped columns and countless rock tombs. Mehmet and Suzie thought it was breathtaking, I totally agree! and want to go there too ☺️

A visit to Kayaköy, an abandoned Greek village close to Fethiye in Turkey. The treaty of Lausanne (1923)provided in an exchange of the Greek orthodox population of Turkey and the Moslim population of Greece. When muslims from Greece were resettled in the village they soon found it too inhospitable so the village was abandoned again.

Doyran Göle, another gem close to Antalya city. Located on the Doyran Stream, Doyran Pond offers a unique setting of tranquility with the surrounding mountain views and lush nature. The natural beauty of the region, which is suitable for walking and cycling, has a peaceful environment. The lake is located 20 minutes from Antalya's city center.

Lyrboton Kome, an old settlement, about two thousand years old, located on a hill in Varsak, less than an hour's drive from Antalya. An olive oil production in the ancient city of Perge, Lyrboton Kome, was unknown for centuries, although it is located in the Varsak region of the Kepez district. The old town with the olive oil workshop, the Roman bath, 5 churches from the Byzantine period, mansions and the remains of the Arete tower becomes the Archeopark, planning is on the way. Very curious what it will look like.

Rhodiapolis, a Lycian city, looks down over Kumluca, about 80 kilometers from Antalya, one of those sites, you have for yourself to explore. There is a good walkway to the archaeological remains, most of the buildings date from the Roman and Byzantine periods: a partially reconstructed theater, which can be reached via a beautifully preserved staircase, a bath house, an agora with a stoa, some temples, a church, water reservoirs, houses and necropolises. At the top of the hill is the acropolis with some remnants of huge bastions and the upper city walls.

01 May. Adrasan Kalesi
You walk to Adrasan Castle in about 20 minutes by following the path, some parts of the path are constructed with wooden steps to make it easy to climb but most of these steps are broken, so not really easy, but you will be rewarded along the way with beautiful wild flowers and at the end a stunning view over the bay of Adrasan. Thanks to Suzie and Sağgün for the pictures and a new discovery, at least for me. Have you ever been there? Do you have photos? please share 🙏

Maraş Dondurması is the famous icecream from the Kahramanmaraş region. Turkish ice cream made from cream, whipped cream, sugar, salep and mastic, resin from the mastic tree, which makes the ice cream stretchy and sticky. The ice is thick because of the addition of salep, flour made from orchids. The vendors, obliged dressed in traditional outfit, turn it into a spectacle by making jokes with their customers . Did that happen to you? Have a look in this video https://youtu.be/O9zNoOImY5E

The municipality of Antalya is doing everything it can to make cycling attractive, building blue cycle paths, places where you can rent bicycles, and it looks like it is being used well, mainly by tourists. The Turkish people prefer motorized vehicles, but when they cycle, often next to the cycle path, understandable because there are cars parked on it, or on the sidewalk, less dangerous for them, not for the pedestrians unfortunately. You can also rent bicycles at Kros in the Kaleiçi, Kamil is there to advise you. Happy bikers with a happy dog

Each area in Turkey produces its own rugs, they differ in motifs and colors, passed on from generation to generation. Döşemealtı, north of Antalya, is famous for the carpets made by Yörük, semi nomadic tribes. The rugs are made with wool and vegetable dyes, the dominant colors are bright red, dark blue, warm green and some white, which symbolize purity. The motifs represent the life-style of the nomads. Stars, visible all night from their tents; Tree of life; the Hac, a cross motif, symbolizing all religions; Camels, walking in 2 directions, symbol for going to the fields in the valley in winter, to the plateau in summer; Scorpio, protection against malice; 5 dots, the 5 daily prayers. There is so much more to tell about carpets, someone who can do that is , a true knowledgeable storyteller. The carpets in the photos are in his shop Antalya TC Mehmet Sağgün
