Just "discovered" a nice cozy Austrian restautant in my district - Waldzeile. After having walked around for years, it was time to try ir for lunch. 😋
And no, it's not a beef tartare, it is salmon on radish rizotto! 😅

Tomorrow I am on my way to Salzburg again. Each time I pass the Makart Square and the Makart Bridge with my group, I wonder if I should explain them who Hans Makart was. I feel like my typical audience doesn’t need so much information. 😉 But you guys have lived in Vienna for a while, so let me remind you that this son of Salzburg became a famous painter in Vienna. And you have seen for sure that splendid ceiling above the staircase in KHM, which he painted as one of his last contracts. After his death, Gustav Klimt took over.

Tourists often ask me, whether the St. Stephen in Vienna (Stephansdom) is the same as in Budapest (St. Stephen’s Basilika). Well, the answer is no. Our „Viennese“ St. Stephen is the same we commemorate on 26th December, the martyr who was stoned back at the beginning of the millennium. The one in Budapest, St. Istvan, was the first Hungarian king and lived almost 1000 years later.

Tomorrow I am going to Salzburg. As you may know, I am also conducting EN-SP full day trips from Vienna. Each time I talk about St. Rupert, I remember that tiny statue of a poor saint in Vienna. It‘s almost hidden in a corner behind the church, with his hand broken. 😅 He resembles somewhat St. Nicolas, because they both were bishops and wear mitra (the appointed hat) and a coat. But what makes St. Ruprecht different is the salt bucket. In Vienna he holds it in his (still entire) hand, in Salzburg the bucket is typically by his feet.
