Downfall of Gaia (Metal Blade Records)

Over 15 years, Germany’s Downfall Of Gaia have carved a unique space in the metal scene, evolving naturally and unafraid to take risks. With their sixth album Silhouettes Of Disgust, they progress in part by looking backwards and returning to familiar territory.

“With this record we wanted to return to our roots and the earlier days, but without taking a step back,” says vocalist/guitarist Dominik Goncalves dos Reis. “We wanted to incorporate both worlds into our new album, where we came from – the DIY/crust punk scene – and the direction things have taken over the past few years, organically growing from release to release.”

The result is best described as a textured, dynamic blend of crust punk and post-black metal with a lot of atmospheric elements, taking everything that ever made the band compelling and pushing it in new and gripping directions. They have expanded their sonic palette with the inclusion of synths for the first time, and female vocals courtesy of Lulu Black.

There is no denying that the band are both writing and playing at the top of their game, and only bolstering their standing as a distinctive, powerful and exciting force in contemporary metal.

Thrilled to announce that Barren Womb joins the roster!

Since their inception in late 2011, the heavy noise rockers from Trondheim, Norway have been raising hell with their minimalistic approach, earsplitting volume and defiant experimentation. The duo make efficient use of crude dynamics and the power of the riff to hammer their point across.

Earlire this year, they released 'Chemical Tardigrade' on Fu***ng North Pole Records. A raw, bombastic slab of noise rock broken into 11 distinct pieces, all of which are as unhinged as they are unorthodox.

Barren Womb has played hundreds of shows in the US and Europe so far, sharing stages with among others Entombed A.D., Voivod, Conan, Nomeansno and Årabrot, and have played festivals like SXSW, by:Larm, Tallinn Music Week, Øya and Pstereo.

Submarine announcement: Ætervader (DK)

Ætervader (they/them) is a composer and sound artist working within improvisational and experimental electronic music. Their performances are centered on exploring artistic/aesthetic relations between (trans)gender performance and improvisational composing practices.

With harsh industrial sounds and murmuring textures and ambiances, Ætervader attempts to reach a state of attentive playfulness.

Ætervader's performance will take place inside the defunct submarine Springeren. Limited seats and for full festival pass holders exclusively.

Submarine announcement: Taagebue (DK)

Taagebue is dungeon synth from the northern marshes of Denmark. It is the solo project of Garðarsson, also of prolific black metal projects Ildskær and Í Myrkri. Under the Taagebue guise, he explores the spheres of dungeon synth in tales of misty forest realms and its spirits.

Taagebue is Danish for fogbow, sometimes referred to as a colorless rainbow or a ghost rainbow. It is rarely seen but appears on occasion when the sun gazes through the fog.

In 2021, Garðarsson released his debut album as Taagebue entitled ‘Soltaagens Skikkelser’ on Gondolin Records. The album is intended for 'staring into the deep forest as the fog engulfs the roots, while tiny flashing lights dance over the misty marshes to lure you into the will of nature spirits.'

This will be Taagebue's first-ever live performance. It will take place inside of a defunct submarine.

Springeren is a defunct submarine that was part of the Danish fleet from 1964 to 1990. All technical installations are intact inside it apart from its 224 batteries. In its operative years, it was home to 33 members of crew.

It is now exhibited at the maritime museum a stone’s throw from SH35. For Lasher Fest 24, it will be used as a special venue for three select shows which will be revealed in the coming days.

Crushingly heavy industrial soundscapes. Haunted screams and visions from the future. The apocalypse and the afterparty forced into one.

After laying waste to Roadburn, Roskilde and most recently Copenhell, JOHN CXNNOR’s doom-rave pandemonium is now headed for Lasher Fest 24.

JOHN CXNNOR is the brainchild of Ketil and Rasmus G. Sejersen, also of post-apocalyptic metal pioneers LLNN. With a blatant disregard for genre boundaries, they wreak havoc with a wealth of styles derived from industrial, hardcore and metal — with self-produced sound recordings of metal scraps in a hydraulic crusher, samples from sci-fi movies and disturbing visuals to complete the experience.

On top of that, the duo is known to bring an impressive lineup of vocalists with them live. But these will remain a surprise until they suddenly appear on stage.

JOHN CXNNOR’s show at Lasher Fest 24 is exclusively commissioned and has never been performed live before. Brace yourself for what is storming your way.

“I always wanted the heavier stuff but I also didn’t really like heavier guitar music,” says Lee Buford, one half of The Body. “None of it really felt quite heavy enough to me. A human can’t be as heavy as a machine.”

Felicia Chen, aka Dis Fig, counters, “I love the balance. You could never connect to just a machine as well as you could a human. Which is why the combination is so potent for me. I don’t want to hide. I think nothing connects you more empathetically than another human’s voice.”

The Body & Dis Fig are a natural pair. Each has pioneered instantly recognizable worlds of sound on their own that defy any traditional categorizations or boundaries.

The Body, Lee Buford and Chip King, continually challenge any conventional conception of metal, collaborating with myriad artists, from the folk leanings of their work with BIG|BRAVE to their groundbreaking work with the Assembly of Light Choir to the intensity of their collaborations with OAA or Thou.

Dis Fig pushes electronic music into dark extremes, from warped DJ sets to avant production, from being a member of Tianzhuo Chen’s performance art series TRANCE to being the vocalist with The Bug.

The Body and Dis Fig find kinship in reimagining what it means to make ‘heavy music’. Their debut “Orchards of a Futile Heaven” is the perfect synthesis of two forces, twisting melodicism and intoxicating rhythms, layering a dense miasma of distortion with intense beats and a soaring voice clawing its way towards absolution.

Nadja @ Lasher Fest 24

Nadja is a duo of Aidan Baker and Leah Buckareff—active since 2005—making music which has been described as ambient doom, dreamsludge, or metalgaze, a signature sound which combines the atmospheric textures of shoegaze and ambient/electronic music with the heaviness, density, and volume of metal, noise, and industrial.

Nadja has released numerous albums on many different underground labels—Alien8 Recordings, Daymare Records, Southern Lord, Hydrahead Records, Gizeh Records, and Important Records, to name a few—including their own imprint, Broken Spine Productions.

The duo has toured extensively around the world—including performances at such festivals as SXSW, FIMAV, Roadburn, Donaufest, Le Guess Who, Incubate, and Unsound—and has shared stages with artists like Earth, OM, Tim Hecker, Khanate, Neurosis, and Godflesh. Originally from Toronto, Canada, the duo now resides in Berlin, Germany.

TELOS were one of the true hardcore bands that managed to live up to the legacy of bands like THE PSYKE PROJECT and Complete.
They are sadly no more.

We were lucky enough to have them at our Lasher Fest last year, and book a few shows for them, including opening slots for the mighty Killswitch Engage.

Six months removed from Lasher Fest 23, we would like to say thank you.

First and foremost to everyone who bought a ticket and a drink and helped solidify the potential for this festival. You are this community.

A huge thanks to Musikkens Hus and 1000Fryd for hosting us and working with us to make this happen. Special thanks to Statens Kunstfond, Aalborg Kommune and Aalborg Events for supporting the festival generously. To Tim Fokking Frederiksen who made next-level artwork for it.
