The park will host the annual synchronous firefly viewing opportunity at Elkmont from Monday, June 3 through Monday, June 10.

The public may apply for the limited viewing opportunity by entering a lottery for a vehicle reservation through www.recreation.gov. The lottery opens for reservation applications on Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m. EDT and closes Monday, April 29 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

MONARCH YOUR CALENDARS!

The peak of monarch migration occurs between September and October in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! Did you know that monarch butterflies travel over 2,500 miles? Every year, monarch butterflies have a migratory route through the Great Smoky Mountains to reach their destination in central Mexico.

While passing through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and parts of North Carolina, they stop to lay their eggs and feed on milkweed. Milkweed is a vital part of monarchs' population because they cannot complete their life cycle without it.

If you’re passing through the park and catch a glimpse of a Monarch Butterfly, take a picture and tag us!

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is pleased to invite visitors of all ages to an event celebrating American Sign Language Day this Saturday, April 15, throughout Cades Cove. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day's activities will include immersive stations where visitors can explore the park and learn related ASL signs.

Certified ASL interpreters and students from the University of Tennessee, Maryville College, Knoxville Center for the Deaf, and Maryville High School will be on hand at all stations to help with activities.
