END OF LIFE FISHING GEAR - REGIONAL COLLECTION EVENTS

When fishing gear, through the wear and tear of regular use, can no longer be used for its intended purpose it is sometimes stored on wharves and slipways or along the shoreline until it can be disposed of. During extreme weather events this gear can be washed into the ocean where it endangers marine life and poses a hazard for boaters.

We will be working with Harbour Authorities, Town Councils, and other partners to help keep this "end of life" fishing gear out of our ocean and out of the landfill.

Fishers can drop off any end of life traps, pots, ropes, and nets at one of the regional collection events. We will ensure these items are properly disposed of, including the recycling of metal traps and pots, plastic based ropes and nets.

Please only drop off the listed fishing items (traps, pots, ropes, nets), and only during the designated collection dates.

If you see an item at one of the collection locations that you could repurpose for your own use please feel free to take it.
