When climbing Mount Kenya, the summit might be the goal, but the real joy is in the adventure that leads you there.

One of the most memorable parts of the Chogoria Route itinerary is the ride to Chogoria Gate, especially when the rains transform the lower slopes into a muddy challenge. This is where the legendary 70-year-old Land Rover Defenders come to life, cutting through dense forests and slippery trails with ease. Steeped in history and built to endure, these vehicles are more than just a means of transport—they are a symbol of adventure and resilience, embodying the spirit of the mountain itself.

Amboseli National Park attractions are those things to see in Amboseli National Park that every visitor on a Kenya safari tour in the park should not miss out on, time allowing. Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro! Kenny, Jonas, and Kai conquered the summit! Yesterday was intense. At first, we were not even sure it was possible.

We started by hiking from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut in just 2 hours and 4 minutes, a stretch that usually takes 5 hours. We were so fast we had to wait nearly 3 hours for the porters to catch up. By the time they reached Kibo Camp, we’d already decided to push on toward Uhuru Peak a bold move. It took us just four hours to reach Uhuru, and the trek wasn’t exactly easy some of us saw bananas and potatoes along the way!

We got to the summit, took our photos, and descended back to Kibo Hut in only an hour and a half faster than anyone expected.

But the day didn’t end there. After dinner, we decided to walk down to Horombo Hut for the night. To say we surprised everyone on the mountain including my guide would be an understatement. In short, we summited Mount Kilimanjaro in just three days! Tomorrow we will be driving to Namanga Boarder the Boarder of Kenya and Tanzania and then head to Amboseli National Park.

Let’s end the day with a wrap-up of the trek from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut! The team powered through this section, completing the 7-hour trek in under 4 hours—an incredible achievement, and we couldn’t be prouder. Huge thanks to Bryson and Baraka for expertly guiding the way, and congratulations to the entire team for digging deep and pushing through! It’s been an unforgettable adventure so far.

Tomorrow, they’ll take on the ambitious journey from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut—the highest camp on Mount Kilimanjaro—and aim for the summit at Uhuru Peak, before descending to Kibo Hut for a well-earned rest. There’s even talk of setting a record by wrapping up the entire Kilimanjaro itinerary in just four days, with a possible final descent from Kibo hut to Marangu Gate. With Mount Kenya conquered in two days and Kilimanjaro now in their sights, this team is redefining what’s possible.

Day Two on Mount Kilimanjaro, and the landscape is changing by the hour! We left the rainforest of Mandara Hut and now we’re making our way through rolling moorlands, with twisted trees, giant heathers, and views stretching for miles. It’s stunning up here! 😍

Meanwhile, we’ve got a little ‘lost in translation’ moment… Kai and Jonas don’t quite understand the Swahili phrase pole pole (meaning ‘slowly, slowly’ to save energy!). At one point, Kai insisted that pole pole in German actually means add more gas! So, German followers—can you confirm if Kai’s pulling our leg? 😂

Also, we may have started last this morning, but it’s looking like we’ll beat everyone (even our porters!) to Horombo Hut.

Still On Day One: A hike to Mandara Hut offers a fantastic introduction to the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail winds through lush rainforest, providing stunning views of the mountain and its diverse ecosystems. Keep your eyes peeled for black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and various bird species.

A 3- to 4-hour hike from Marangu Gate brings you to Mandara Hut at 2,700 meters above sea level. From here, you can enjoy a short walk to the rim of Maundi Crater—a remnant of a volcanic vent—which, on a clear day, offers glorious views of Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks.

Day one Guiding Mount Kilimanjaro Marangu route.

The Mount Kilimanjaro rainforest zone often comes as a surprise to many who don’t realise that the base of Mount Kilimanjaro is ringed by rainforest.
The forest is thicker and lusher on the south and east sides of the mountains, which experience more rain. You can expect large, gnarled trees that are covered in moss, as well as thick undergrowth, plenty of creepers, lively streams and powerful waterfalls.

There are many flowers to enjoy at this elevation, but of particular note is the Kilimanjaro impatiens. This beautiful, red-and-yellow flower can be found nowhere else in the world – it lives only in the forest at the base of Mt Kilimanjaro!
