“Evans is a very laidback local who will tell you all about folks of the past and present living in downtown Charleston. We learned a lot of interesting things I had never heard in other tours. At first, we were concerned that some of what he said contradicted what others had told us, but when we started doing the research, we found that he was the one telling the truth all along! Get ready for a different kind of tour, kind of like walking around town with a buddy chatting candidly about his hometown and neighbors. I’m certainly glad we took this tour!”

I met the nicest people from Wales today. They weren’t even on my tour. I just stoked up a conversation in front a historical marker. We had a lot in common. Both of us of Welsh descent and their last name was Bird. That’s the original spelling of my last name.

Peaceful and quiet is a great way to describe “Off The Beaten Path.” Join is for a tour at 2:00 pm daily.

I have always loved that the Unitarian Church erected this monument a few years ago. It is very simple but speaks volumes. The Sankofa Memorial is dedicate the the enslaved people that made the bricks and built the church on Archdale. This is the first entity I have seen that has built such a wonderful memorial to say thank you to those who had no choice.

Walking With A Charleston Native

Come walk with me, Evans Byrd. I have been a licensed tour guide for close to twenty-five years and the history, culture, architecture, and people are part of my everyday life and my family has been here for quite some time. I love nothing more than to interpret Charleston’s history and do it in a fun way. I’m going to make sure I am memorable part of you Charleston vacation.
