'Pink Pillbox' Hike, also known as Ma'ili, is a short ridge-hike on the west side of Oahu that overlooks the surrounding residential area.
Exploring the lowest, driest, and hottest place in North America - Death Valley. From the salt flats to the sand dunes, this national park has so much to offer! 🏜️
Did we fall in love with the boards in this shop? ABSOLUTELY!
Do we have any space to fit one in our suitcases? sadly not….
Speaking of suitcases and weight limits, we ended up being a couple of pounds over on our luggage this time (they weigh it in lb’s in the US 🇺🇸) luckily, the lady was kind enough to let us through for free and told us to be careful next time 🧳⚖️
The more we travel the more inspiration we have for blog posts, so next up on the blog will be a few tips on how to pack lighter!

Hanauma Bay is one of the most popular bays on Oahu, which is normally always viewed from beach level. Well we were lucky enough to discover a slightly different view point, to see the full crate shaped bay in all its glory, with Koko Crater photo bombing in the back! 🌋

The first thing you have to know about Ka'Ena Point, is that in Hawaiian 'Ka'Ena' translates to 'the heat' and by gosh it isn't wrong!

Who’d have guessed it? 😂 Located in the Waimea State Park next to Waimea Canyon, this is well worth a stop whilst in the Park!
The word ‘waimea’ means ‘reddish water’ in Hawaiian so pretty self explanatory 💦
…in this area of the island you’ll definitely feel like you’re on another planet 🌎 some would even say it’s out of this world 😉

Exploring the Big Island which is actually named Hawai’i 🌺
We are learning that this is one of the most diverse islands we’ve ever visited. From one area of Lava fields, to very barren and desert like, to lush green tropics which reminded us of Northern Queensland in Australia, to cute towns, beautiful beaches with the finest white powder sand, cowboy country with cattle, to driving through an area which didn’t seem all that different to back home in Yorkshire ☺️

Washed up on an island? feeling like Robinson Crusoe?
Well, instead of being shipwrecked, we had paddleboards and instead of being washed up for 28 years like Mr Crusoe, we only spent an hour or so there....but we felt very much like adventurers!

In love with lighthouses? turns out I am too! and if you adore how cute and quirky they are then this is the post for you!
The best thing about this walk is the views and the fact the whole journey is paved with great lookout points. During the winter months it is the perfect spot for whale watching, so we will absolutley be making a return visit.
In terms of heat...this ones a real doozy!
There is no shade, think almost having mirages of water fountains and youre about half way there to how hot it was!

I seem to be drawn to lighthouses. I have no idea why and only noticed this recently when my mum pointed this out. As soon as I find a hike or a coastal trail and there is a lighthouse included on the way, I HAVE to do it. Perhaps its the idea of it being a beacon to guide weary travels on the sea,....

This was one of those 'pinch me' moments in life when you remember you're just a small town girl from the Yorkshire Dales hiking up mountains in one of the most beautiful locations on the planet!

This is probably one of the most iconic pictures associated with Oahu (minus Chris in his Hawaiian shirt ofcourse!). Lanikai Pillbox located just above Lanikai beach on the east side of Oahu is absolutely worth the uphill hike. The bonus of this hike is the short duration and the rewarding view. As....

I wish they had taught the history of places such as Oahu in school when I was younger, out of sight out of mind right? Wrong.
Oahu and the Hawaiian islands in general are so fascinating to discover, the colourful and muddied history of this idyllic set of islands is something we should all take the time to learn about.
I think coming from Europe, Hawaii seems like a million miles away, but actually European and British history are sewn into these volcanic gem stones in the Pacific, more than we'd care to realise.
