Port Isaac

Rock
Rock is one of Cornwall’s north coast gems, a scenic, surfy, sunny resort which comes alive each summer, bursting with energy and good vibes. It’s a brilliant base to explore this particularly wonderful stretch of Cornish coastline. About an hour’s walk by Coast Path leads to Polzeath, one of Cornwall’s best beaches, and a pleasant ferry ride across the Camel Estuary to Padstow. In Rock itself there are shops and cafes, and endless sparkling sea views. The Mariner’s pub has been transformed by chef Paul Ainsworth into a fantastic place to eat and drink, with a high end, yet laidback, menu and a gorgeous terrace which overlooks this charming Cornish destination.

Aveiro, Portugal
With its candy-colored houses, magnificent Art Nouveau architecture, verdant gardens, and boat-filled canals, the charming seaside town of Aveiro is an easy place to fall in love. Take a ride on a moliceiro boat, picnic under the shady palms of the waterfront Jardim do Rossio, or simply duck into one of its many cafes and share a plate of ovos moles (Portuguese pastries). Plus, with the Atlantic on your doorstep, you’ll find sweeping golden beaches just minutes away by bus or boat.

Bled, Slovenia
It doesn't get much more romantic than Bled, a quaint, fairytale village on Slovenia’s glittering Lake Bled. Everything about it is swoon-worthy, from its 12th-century castle, set high on a cliff overlooking the lake, to its charming, candlelit restaurants. Pro tip: Take your sweetheart on a boat ride in a pletna, a traditional wooden rowboat, to the lush island in the middle of the lake. (Legend has it, visiting the island’s church and ringing its bell will make all your dreams come true.)

Mykonos, Greece
There are certainly more secluded and relaxing spots in the Greek Isles, but if you’re coming to the party capital of the Cyclades, chances are you’re looking for more stimuli than simply sun, sand, and surf. Psarou Beach is the place to see and be seen, as the international elite moors their yachts offshore to lounge on Loro Piana mattress–topped mahogany sun beds, under striped Tucci umbrellas. Come nightfall, the flashily named Super Paradise Beach transforms into a thrumming nightclub in the sand, where the motto is “music’s loud, Champagne’s cold.” We never said Mykonos was subtle.

British Virgin Islands
You can thank conservationist Laurance Rockefeller for putting the British Virgin Islands on the beach holiday map back in 1964 when he opened the Little Dix Bay resort on a serene crescent of Virgin Gorda sand. Soon, it was attracting well-heeled sunseekers like Queen Elizabeth II herself, and the recently renovated property (now a Rosewood) regularly ranks among your favorite resorts in the world. Elsewhere in the archipelago, you can snorkel off of White Bay Beach on Jost Van D**e, sail away to remote and uninhabited Sandy Spit, or follow the crowds to The Baths National Park, where enormous boulders—some as big as 40 feet in diameter—set the boundaries for calm natural pools.

Red Hook Recreation Area, Brooklyn
This neighborhood pool is a great one for its proximity to the other facilities offered at the recreation area, like the basketball courts, soccer fields, a running track, and a gym with a cardio center and exercise classes. This neighborhood pool is a great one for all ages, as there’s a kiddie pool separated from the swimming lanes, and colorful bleachers. You can register online to save time, or at the pool itself before you start your swim.

Astoria Pool
You can’t beat the iconic waterfront views of the East River at Astoria Pool. Sandwiched between the Robert F. Kennedy and Hell Gate Bridges in Astoria Park, the pool looks out on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and was used for the United States Olympic Trials for swimming during the 1936, 1952, and 1964 Summer Games. Astoria Pool is one of the city’s prime swimming spots, as the largest in the five boroughs, measuring 330 feet long by 165 feet wide. For the kids, there’s a wading pool, north of the main pool, surrounded by spray sprouts to run through.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
This is one of the fewer mosques of a grand scale that actually allows non-worshippers. Located between the Mussafah, Shaikh Zayed and Maqta bridges, it is both majestic and full of splendor. It is one of the cultural landmarks of Abu Dhabi and is a must visit to get a sense of the grandiosity which Dubai operates on. Entry is free.

Qaryat Al Torath Heritage Village
As the name suggests, here you will get to experience a little piece of what the heritage of Dubai actually is amidst all the globally known and admired steel towers. This heritage village is located at Al Ain and here you will get to see and know more about the traditional handicrafts and practices of the community herein. You will also get to take these home, courtesy of the 32 stalls which are set up there. The aim of the Qaryat Al Torath Heritage Village is not to showcase a barely alive tradition, they also aim to spread knowledge about its existence so the tradition survives.

Al Ain Classic Car Museum
This is the perfect place for automobile enthusiasts to head to. Located in the AL Faida Complex, it houses classic cars which you don’t get to see anymore driving out on the streets. Managed by the Classic Car Club, here you will get to see the cars up close and personal as well as get to know more about them, like when they were created, when production for it stopped, where was it made and more.

Saruq Al Hadid Museum
Here you will get to know and learn about the iron age of the Arabian peninsula at the open museum in the historical district of Dubai. This place is a beautiful merging ground of both the past and the present. Bring your family with you and enjoy knowing a tale as old as time. Apart from the various arts and artifacts therein, the architecture of the place is also worth admiring. The Saruq Al Hadid Museum is located in the Shindaga district.

Located in Al Mamzar, here you will get the opportunity of relaxing under the lush and vibrant trees as you forget everything around you.
