The vajra is an ancient symbol of creative potency and spiritual power that appears as the mystic thunderbolt of the Vedic god Indra and signifies the ’skillful means’ of Ta***ic Buddhism. The Vajra Path expl

ores the underlying principles and practices of Vajrayāna Buddhism as they intersect with analogous traditions committed to realizing the deeper possibilities of human life.

This summer, July 27-August 13, 2024, Dr Nida Chenagtsang and Dr Ian Baker will be leading a journey to Tibet and Mount Kailash!

Held by many faiths to be the meeting place of Earth and Heaven, Mount Kailash in western Tibet is one of the most ancient and spectacular pilgrimage destinations on the planet. Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, and Bönpo pilgrims ritually circumambulate the mountain as an act of spiritual renewal, while innumerable others discover inspiration and wonder in its sacred geography.

Beginning in Tibet’s vibrant capital city of Lhasa, our pilgrimage to Mount Kailash will include visits to Tibet’s most renowned monasteries, palaces, and temples, while we immerse ourselves in Tibet’s ancient Buddhist culture, art, and yogic traditions.

As a rare extension, this specially curated journey will also take us beyond Mount Kailash to the tenth-century Buddhist Kingdom of Gugé and the little-known cave citadels that inspired the legends of Shambhala and Shangri-La. Buddhist teachings, yoga, and group meditation will be integrated into all aspects of the itinerary.

Special focus will be on the Cakrasaṃvara Ta**ra, as Mount Kailash is held to be the geographical center of the Cakrasaṃvara–Vajrayoginī maṇḍala. Their maṇḍala, in turn, encodes deepening levels of the spiritual journey, as practiced at Mount Kailash by the great adepts Padmsambhava, Yeshé Tsogyal, and Milarepa.

( Repost )

Menla is delighted to announce the return of world-renowned teacher Dr. Nida Chenagtsang as he joins Bob Thurman again for a special late fall retreat, The Yoga of Bliss: Yuthok Nyingthig Karmamudra, December 6-10.

Karmamudra refers to the ancient Buddhist practice of partnered sexual yoga, whether in pure visualization form or with a physical partner. Also known as ‘The Path of Skillful Means’ or ‘The Path of Great Bliss”, karmamudra uses powerful meditation techniques to transform the raw energy of ordinary sexual pleasure, worldly desire, and or****ic bliss into vehicles for spiritual transformation and liberation.

Aiming to inform and empower, Dr. Nida offers these rarely taught practices in order to clear away common misconceptions and offer vital context and instructions through which beginner and advanced students of any gender or sexual orientation can learn to engage with typically destructive and distracting emotions in a skillful and healthy way.

This teaching includes an introduction to and empowerment for the Yuthok Nyingthig, the unique cycle of Vajrayana Buddhist practice connected with Tibetan Medicine, characterized by its concise and simple methods designed to bring about both worldly benefits—including improved health and longevity, enhanced healing and diagnostic skills—as well as the ultimate benefit of complete spiritual liberation.

Please note that while traditional teachings and techniques will be introduced and may be practiced using visualization, no physical sexual practices will take place during this retreat.

Open to all Vajrayana Buddhist practitioners.
