A Steamy Love Letter (to My Travel Steamer)This is the weirdest love letter I can write. It’s to my ... travel steamer. We’ve been in a committed relationship for six years and it’s time the world knows.
Here are 10 reasons I take it everywhere, how I’ve weaponised it against microscopic demons and why you’ll find me steaming away in an airport bathroom. Hopefully, it’s a helpful guide for anyone who loves linen and hates to be crumpled (or is, like me, a Christmas dinner to microscopic mites).

It's a gold mine for anybody going to Koh Samui for the first time, but also for those who have been there as there's more to discover! The big question: will it rain in August? It very well might – but you’re going to choose not to care. Why? Don’t fixate on the weather (something you can’t control) – Koh Samui is gorgeous always, as are its drinks, food and people.Always expect rain in the tropics, but rest assured it never lasts very long.
I first visited Koh Samui in August, 2003 and … clearly, it was a pretty good sales pitch. August is fantastic but – here’s the sneakiest of tips – the island completely empties on September 1st, as families head home for the start of school. If you want August’s fantastic weather, with beaches to yourself, see if you can stretch your trip into the first few days of September.

About the author
In 2012, Alex Hammond and her brother wrote The Koh Samui Guide they wished they’d had on their first few visits to Thailand. To their (tremendous) surprise, the guide became “a thing” … and it’s been an ongoing labour of love ever since.
