This week the Turks and Caicos Islands will celebrate the National Day of Thanks. We are highlighting a few of the places we are most grateful for, right here in the Leeward neighborhood! 1. Mangrove Cay - part of the Princess Alexandra Nature Reserve. Reputated as the easiest wetland paddling spot in Providenciales, this is a great group activity via kayak or SUP. The south entry apposite Heaving Down Rock is the quickest access from , just an hour and a half round trip is sufficient to see these beautiful mangroves. Time your visit with high tide! The opposite entry is also a must see, check out the yachts harboring in Blue Haven marina on the way. You’re sure to see many turtles in the channel, no matter the time of day, just be mindful of the boat and jetski traffic! 2. Book an eco tour to visit Little Water Cay and see the Rock Iguanas up close and personal. If your party likes hiking, we highly encourage the long tour to visit a gorgeous cove just before half moon bay. 3. There are three public beach accesses in Leeward and all are lovely in their own right. Sunset Beach is the most accessible with on site parking so head there if planning to bring chairs, umbrellas, and a picnic to spend the morning or afternoon. Pelican Point is a nice bicycle ride through the neighborhood to reach, as is Leeward Going Through access. The Leeward Channel is a great place for morning lap swimming in the shallow area close to the beach. 4. Bird Rock Point- The trail is in need of TLC in terms of signage but it’s manageable for little ones and active seniors. The path was cleared by the Turks and Caicos National Truat in 2014 and is .8 miles long. This is a great area for birdwatching so bring binoculars! First image all others
