Domestic workers can now apply for compensation when injured on duty, the Constitutional Court of South Africa has decided.
This means that employers will need to register with the Compensation Fund and pay annual assessment fees based on their domestic worker’s earnings.
Employers are not allowed to deduct money from worker’s wages as contributions to the fund.
Employers who fail to register will be liable for fines and prosecution.

In a landmark ruling, domestic workers operating in private households are now protected by the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act.

GEORGE — Thirteen years after passenger service ended on the George-Knysna Railway Line, a new study is reviving the debate over what to do with the 42-mile stretch of unused track. The feasibility study proposes a biking - hiking trail that would boost both global and local tourism to the benefit of the towns and rural communities along the existing railway line. The study goes on to say that the implementation of the proposed biking - hiking trail would have a higher degree of success because of lower overheads, higher benefits and inclusiveness of let’s say the restoration of the line for light rail tourism and freight.
What do you support a proposed biking-hiking trail or a restored Railway line?

The Tourism Amendment Bill states that ‘short-term home rentals’ will now be legislated under the Tourism Act.
The Department of Tourism confirmed that these changes were specifically being introduced to regulate platforms such as Airbnb and Booking. com.
The Department of Tourism also plans to give more oversight to local government when it comes to zoning and where short-term home rentals may be located. Only registered short-term home rentals will be allowed to operate.

Thresholds
The amendment will also empowers the minister of Tourism to determine the ‘thresholds’ regarding these short-term home rentals. If enacted in its current form, it would allow the minister of Tourism to set thresholds on short-term home rentals – such as a maximum number of nights customers would be allowed to stay, or the maximum amount of money hosts are allowed to make.

Taxation
Local government is also expected to introduce a local city tax per person per night. To set that off, two steps will be further required from accommodation facilities (formal and informal): make available personal details of guests to a national online database accessible to but not limited, local authorities; collect the city tax from the guests and paid it out to local government.
