Attention, Orlando - here's a new publication that REALLY highlights the city, its history and culture, and provides a real locals' eye view of our home as rarely depicted...
We are excited to (finally) announce our big project for this year - 111 Places In Orlando That You Must Not Miss! It is part of the renowned 111 Places series and it will be published by Emons Verlag on September 6. Pre-orders are now being taken and it costs just $23.95 (£13.99 in the UK).
Aimed at locals as well as visitors, it contains 111 'stories' about Orlando's many offbeat, quirky and historic places that might not be obvious to most. With full-color photos on every page from soon-to-be-award-winning photographer Kayla L. Smith Photography, this is the story of The City Beautiful beyond the theme parks; the history that pre-dates Disney and Co; the creative sparks behind the arts and culture; and the great diversity that combines to form a heart-warming backdrop to the living, breathing heart of the city.
Packed with insights into 19th and 20th century heritage - from the Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek and Wells' Built Museum of African American History and Culture to Hannibal Square Heritage Center and the Zora Neale Hurston Museum of Fine Arts - and the people who shaped Orlando's modern face, notably at the Dr. Phillips House, Harry P. Leu Gardens, Dickson Azalea Park and Col. Joe Kittinger Park. We have the almost forgotten story of Hamilton Disston in Central Florida in the 1890s, gator wrestler 'Bunk' Baxter in the 1880s, and the "lost" Orlando house of Jack Kerouac, as well as amusing oddities such as The Monument of States in Kissimmee, the 'ghost dog' of Lake Eola Park, the I-4 Eyesore, and the 'Alien' men's restroom at Maxine's on Shine!
This has been a true joy to explore and write, giving us a whole new view of and passion for Orlando. And, if you think you know the city, we think we'll surprise - and delight - you, and make you fall in love with it all over again. Just as we did.
Now available for pre-order ahead of the September launch, you can find it online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and all good bookstores (including the fab Writer's Block Bookstore in Winter Park).

We need our wonderful Central Florida community to rally round and support the arts, like Timucua Arts Foundation, as much as they can. Assist, donate and attend whenever and wherever you can.
“It’s heartbreaking,” said Leah Nash, the foundation’s Executive Director, when discussing the art funding cuts. “What does that mean for arts in general? Is it a goal for the arts to be absent? I hope not. That’s terrifying to me. Arts bring so much to life, to people, to culture.”
We need your help more than ever!

Supporting Central Florida Tourism
The Central Florida Tourism Collective is a group of like-minded businesses that aims to send out messages of hope and reassurance to all our visitors, to ensure they know we will still be here when we can all get back to traveling normally, post-COVID-19.
There is so much that is still happening here, despite the current stay-at-home orders across the country, and we all remain immensely positive that, if we all pull together, we will return in full strength and with our guarantee of providing the memorable vacation experiences for millions of people that Central Florida is known for.
Many of our members are still working, behind the scenes, to maintain their attractions, and these are stories that will otherwise go unnoticed. Others of us have had business drastically reduced, but we are working twice as hard to maintain the relationships that we have, and to foster new ones in a collective mind-set.
The bottom line is that we all need to support each other, customers and businesses alike, in these unprecedented times. Now more than ever, we are acutely aware that we are ALL intimately connected on a macro scale; we all rely on the friends, neighbors and industries around us, and we all need to do ‘our bit’ to maintain and strengthen those relationships.
With that in mind, let us introduce the current membership of the Central Florida Tourism Collective (by alphabetic order):
Attractions Magazine (Matt Roseboom), Bisbee And Co PR (Jennifer Bisbee), Deatrick PR (Mary Deatrick), Double T Multimedia (Nick Romeo), Eat & Play Card (Larry Raubach), Edible Orlando (Pam Brandon, Katie Wilson, Kendra Lott), EMC Public Relations (Beth Cocchierella), Gatorland (Kathy Hernandez), Gray Line Orlando (Tori Sullivan), Hess PR (Jennie Hess), Island Boat Lines (Penny Sheridan), JJ Communications (Jennifer Juergens), Kenney Communications (Barbara Kenney & Maggie Ferrara), Merlin Entertainments (Adrian Jones), Old Town (Todd Larkin), Orlando Attractions (Kevin Chippindale), Orlando Balloon Rides (Keith Fear), Revolution Adventures (Audrey & Kevin Jowett), Richeson Communications (Laura Richeson), Rona Gindin, Scott Joseph Orlando (Scott Joseph), Sunshine Marketing (Sunshine Woodyard), TJM Communications (Joel Kaiman), Veness Travel Media (Susan & Simon Veness), West Volusia Tourism Authority (Georgia Turner), Wild Florida (Sam Haught), and Winter Park Chamber of Commerce (Betsy Gardner Eckbert).
We intend to add more in the weeks to come, to contribute still more stories of encouragement and positivity in these challenging times.
In short, we all look forward to welcoming you back to our dazzling array of attractions in this unique part of the world in due course, and remember, #SupportCFLTourism.
