Enhancements to the super visa program for parents and grandparents will help reunite families more easily and for longer.

These changes, which come into force on July 4, 2022, will
1. Increase the length of stay for super visa holders to 5 years per entry into Canada

2. People who have a super visa also have the option to request to extend their stay by up to 2 years while in Canada. This means super visa holders will now be able to stay in Canada for up to 7 consecutive years.

3. Allow the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship to designate international medical insurance companies to provide coverage to super visa applicants in the future.
Currently, only Canadian insurance providers can provide the necessary medical coverage that super visa applicants are required to have. Information about any designated medical insurance companies located outside of Canada will be communicated on IRCC’s website at a later date.

To be eligible for this open work permit, Your post-graduation work permit (PGWP) is already expired on or after January 30, 2020, or
will expire within 4 months from the date you apply for this open work permit.

International students: if you have been affected by while in Canada and hold or held a post-graduation work permit (PGWP), you will now have the opportunity to apply for another open work permit.

On January 27, 2021, foreign nationals in Canada with an expired or expiring PGWP will have a one-time opportunity to apply for another open work permit with a duration of 18 months. Applications will be accepted until July 27, 2021.

Today we began sending invitations to apply for the 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program. We encourage those who submitted interest to sponsor forms in the fall of 2020 to check their email accounts regularly throughout the week.

Those who receive invitations to apply must submit their complete applications within 60 days. The deadline to apply will be clearly marked on the invitation.
