The light at that golden hour made for great photos. The captain and crew were very accommodating, and the Captain gave a good overview of what we were seeing, and recounted lots of history on the area and the ship. Drinks were available for a price. There's no loudspeaker you can't really understand, and there aren't so many people aboard that you can't see your surroundings. It's exactly the way sailing is meant to be. Slow, easy-going, and full of beauty. The vessel is in great condition and its clear that her crew cares about her. Our two hour tour ended up being closer to 4 hours! "I had another great sail with this outfit! I was lucky enough to sail on the Appledore in 2012, so there was no question what company I would choose this time. We took the 10 am sail and the captain and crew were outstanding, as was the scenery and entire experience. "Favorite part: The captain, Sean, was the consummate host. He was warm, kind, incredibly skilled as a captain with a sixth sense for wind and the location we sailed. He told stories about the history and geography with the narrative skill of a John Irving.
Second favorite part: The schooner is gorgeous. It sails beautifully, and is kept immaculately. (Sheets all draped in perfect symmetry). Although built in 1999, it has a classic shape that evokes the feel of a vessel 100 years older.
Third favorite: The location! We got to see multiple schools of porpoises swimming, lighthouses, islands, incredible scenery, and as I mentioned above, be able to understand context and meaning through the captains wonderful knowledge of history, lore, and the local community.
Lastly, my wife and I are locals. We live in Brunswick, and took this cruise because we have guests from CA. We wouldn't have done this without entertaining people from away, but had SUCH a wonderful experience, we'll continue to do this, as date-night of sorts, just the two of us, because it was so lovely."
