Trail Tales Outdoors was an offshoot of a nomad's idea. About half a decade before the smartphones and innumerable travel startups made ecotourism a norm for domestic travellers, Trail Tales saw its glory.

The greeting "happy trails!" was used for the first time in our communications to the discerning travellers across the globe to experience different societies, beautiful nature, and something beyond...that is the art of leaving a 'hand prints' instead of 'footprints'.

We commemorate 3rd anniversary of dissolving of a much-loved and appreciated ecotourism social enterprise which had become an intrinsic part of many a travellers, whether they walked those trails with us or supported us in spirit.

So thank you to all the lovely people whom we got to know and who still remember us when looking back at the good times of their lives.

I hope to keep this page alive for sharing information on new trails, interesting travel and cultural blogs, recommend few home stays as well as travel books/authors.

I hope you will continue to appreciate and remember Trail Tales as a dream which continues in our hearts.

Langza’s Fossil Centre: The Spiti Valley was formed as a result of the collision of the Indian and the Eurasian plate millions of years ago which led to the disappearance of the ancient Tethys Sea leaving behind fossilised clues of the sea life of that era. The route to the natural fossil centre starts from the Lang (temple) at Langza, from where it is about a half hour walk to its base. The fossil centre ranges from an average altitude of 4400 mts to 4600 mts along a narrow stream and is best explored here. Pangi is remarkable in its rugged grandeur and austere beauty. The scenery is sublime and imposing and nature appears in her wildest and grandest moods. Everything is on a stupendous scale. The great river rolls along in a deep and narrow gorge, lashing itself into fury, sandwiched between adamantine cliffs that confine it. Precipices spring from the brink in places almost perpendicular to a height of 1,000 to 2,000 feet. On the lower ranges are grassy slopes of rich pasture with dense forests of pine and cedar, while higher up the stern and majestic mountains attaining an altitude from 18,000 to 21,000 feet rising far above the line of eternal snow. But all this is not rugged and sublimity and naked beauty. Every few miles the traveler reaches tolerably open nooks of surpassing beauty, which may have been small lakes in some gone by age, while the river was cutting its course." It is pristine, grand and ethereal. That’s Chandratal Lake at an altitude of 4300 meters, fed by glaciers and revered by all, located in the cold desert of the Spiti valley. Every year the lake is unbound for seven months and the lucky ones can visit only once the road opens in last week of May to be closed in September. At a distance of 123 kms from Manali, The Chandratal Lake has many a legend attached to it, one being that fairies often descend from the heavens to dwell in its serenity. Well we don’t know if we run into them or not, however one sight which will resonate forever is the Full Moon night at Chandratal.
