Gljufrabui Waterfall, a small waterfall north of the larger falls of Seljalandsfoss🤩

It’s less then 1km away from Seljalandsfoss and an easy hike but it’s often overlooked by most travellers which is why it’s considered a hidden gem of the South Coast.

The falls are partially blocked by a cliff rock but you can enter the narrow canyon between to get up close to the waterfall. Make sure you’re wearing waterproof clothes because you will get 100% wet.

Located in the South Region of Iceland, Seljalandsfoss is one of the most impressive waterfalls of Iceland but if you keep walking to the left of it you will come across all sorts of these small waterfalls.

First day in Iceland at the Sky Lagoon 🧖‍♀️🪻💦.

We did the The Ritual experience which is seven steps through the geothermal lagoon, cold plunge, sauna , cold mist, body scrub, steam and shower. There is also a restaurant that offers tasting platters of traditional Icelandic cuisine, which is a great way to end your experience.

The Sky Lagoon is right outside Reykjavik (about 15 mins drive) and is a cheaper alternative to the Blue Lagoon, almost half the price. The lagoon also has captivating views of the Atlantic Ocean, showcasing glaciers and volcanoes.

Sat on this dune for awhile to watch a pack of wildebeest cross the plaine.

The dune (called the Elim Dune) is located about 5km from Sesriem Desert Camp and is 100m high. It can be reached by car, bike or even by foot from the camp. Definitely recommend checking it out if Sesriem is on your stop. Get there early for good light and no crowds or for sunset 🧡

Spitzkoppe! Also referred to as the “Matterhorn of Namibia”.

Probably one of my favourite places visited while in Namibia. It is a lesser known attraction and many tourists have been known to drive straight past these peaks.

The campsite and surrounding area were beautiful, I definitely recommend staying a night or two here while in Namibia as it is been seen when camping overnight. Spend your mornings watching the sunrise and rocks change from bright red to orange to yellow and spend your days hiking, rock climbing, and walking through the area. At the end of the day grab an ice cold-beer at the small restaurant/bar.

The granite of Spitzkoppe is more than 120 million years old and many examples of Bushmen artwork can be seen painted on the rocks. The sunsets and sunrises combined with the dramatic rock peaks make for the most striking visuals.

Spitzkoppe is located 180km from Swakopmund and 280km from Windhoek.

Dune Biking in Swakopmund! A must do while in Namibia.

Riding in the sand dunes can be challenging because the sand is loose so you have to make sure to keep pedalling and moving forward. There are several places to rent fat bikes in Swakopmund for up to 4 hours of fat-biking on the dunes. It is an eco-friendly option to get up close to the magnificent scenery and dunes that the Namib Desert has to offer.

Have you ever been on a fat-bike? Let me know in the comments below.

Exploring the sand dunes near Sesriem🧡

Sesriem is a small settlement that consists of a gas station, convenience store and two lodging options (the campsite and a lodge). We only had to bike about 5km from the campsite to reach this dune.

I recommend staying at least two days in Sesriem. We stayed at the campsite. Sesriem campsite is reserved directly on the NWR site, make sure to book in advance because there are few pitches. Price: 200N$/per person (about 15€/$16 USD)

There is tons to do around Sesriem. Sossusvlei, Sesriem Canyon, Dune 45, the Deadvlei, and the other Namib attractions can all be accessed by entering the Namib-Naukluft National Park at the Sesriem gate. Most people travel to Sesriem from Windhoek and will take about 5 hours.

Biking around Sesriem campsite in the evening.

Sesriem is a small settlement in the Namib Desert. We stayed at Sesriem Camspite, which is one of the only two camps inside the Namib Naukluft Reserve. The advantage of staying in this camp is that you are able to drive out to the dunes before sunrise due to its close proximity.

Evenings at the beautiful Sesriem Campsite ⛺️

The camping infrastructure in Namibia is amazing and very safe! All around the country you fill find great campsites. For the most part they are not fenced in except for the ones in Etosha National Park, but animals do not perceive tents as tents with people inside, they interpret them as large animals or objects.

Tips for Camping in Namibia
1. Pre-book your campsites well in advance - popular spots like Etosha, Sossusvlei and Sesriem book up sometimes a year ahead.
2. Bring warm clothes!! Although it is super hot during the day (sometimes 40+ Celsius) it can get very cold at night.
3. Don’t leave your shoes outside the tent at night - bugs, spiders and other creatures could hop in during the night.
4. Bring a headlamp - it’s easier to navigate with a headlamp over a flashlight.
5. Take a break in a hotel - although we camped most of the trip we stayed at a hotel in Swakopmund to take a break from the desert camping.
6. Pack clothes that are easy to wash or dry - you will be doing hand washing at most campsites.

Camping while traveling is such a great experience. It is affordable, eco-friendly and you get an authentic experience.

What’s your favourite camping experience?

📍Climbing Dune 45 in the Namib Desert

The best time to see Dune 45 is at sunrise or sunset. We got up at 6:00am to drive over to Dune 45 and sit on top of the dune to watch the sunrise. Be sure to give yourself enough time to climb up the dune. Although it doesn’t look tall, it is 560 feet and the sand makes it hard to climb. When you’re ready to head back down run down the side of the dune (the best part!)

Dune 45 is located 45km away from Sesriem Camp (the entrance point for Namib-Naukluft National Park. It is located in the Namib Desert which is considered the worlds largest with the sand being 5 million years old.

On our first day after leaving Windhoek behind, we cycled 50km through Namibia’s amazing landscapes. We started cycling at the top of Kupferberg Pass just outside of Windhoek and ended at the bottom of Gemsberg Pass. Gemsberg Pass is the 3rd highest mountain in Namibia, with views stretching over 100km. It is considered one of the most beautiful passes in Namibia and sometimes referred to as the Garden Route of Namibia.

If you are cycling the pass be prepared for some very bumpy, rocky and windy roads and if you are driving, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.

On our way we spotted several troops of baboons and some Hartmann’s mountain zebras. We also passed by several private farms, some of which were lodges that you can stay in!

Night #1 camping under the stars at Rooisand Desert Ranch in Gamsberg, Namibia.

Rooisand Desert Ranch is situated half way between Walvis Bay and Windhoek. They have lodging available but also campsites (where we stayed). The fee to camp is only about 13 USD a night and the campsite is situated about 2km away from the main property. It is surrounded by beautiful scenery of the red sand dunes, grasslands and mountains. I definitely recommend staying here while in Namibia.

Mauritius🌞🌈🌺🌊

Mauritius is a small island off the eastern coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. To get here we took a 4 hour direct flight from Johannesburg. It’s most well known for its beaches and sapphire waters but there are plenty of activities to do as well like hiking, diving, and snorkelling.

The best time to go if you are looking to travel on a budget is during low season from May-September. We went in May and had no problems with weather and got a great deal on accommodation.

Some things to check out in Mauritius:

1. Ile aux Cerfs
2. Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark
3. Flic en Flac Beach
4. Black River Gorge National Park
5. Port Louis
6. Le Morne Brabant Mountain Peak

Another thing to know about Mauritius is that 90% of the population speaks a French-based Creole and French is the language most used in education and media.

Mark Twain once wrote that ‘Mauritius was made first and then heaven, heaven being copied after Mauritius’

Would you visit this island paradise?

Jozi🌞

Didn’t get to do much exploring in Johannesburg as it was just a stop over on our way to Kruger National Park, but we did an amazing 4 day camping safari in once we reached Kruger. We booked through a company called Outlook Safaris. It was super affordable and good value. The tour guides, food, and tents were all amazing. It was around $1,000 CAD per person.

Everyday you do a morning and evening game drive and one day you have the option to do the Panoramic Route (which I highly recommend). You are transported by bus to and from Johannesburg.

Would you do a budget camping safari or would you prefer a lodge/luxury style?

Blyde River Canyon 🌿- one of the largest canyons on Earth (3rd largest and 26km long).

We saw this canyon while on the Panorama Route in South Africa. The Panorama Route is a scenic road that you can follow that connects to you to some amazing natural points of interest like this canyon, waterfalls, caves and more. The route starts at the foot of the Long Tom Pass just outside Lydenburg and ends at the border of the Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces.

You can easily see all the best stops on this route in 1 day but if you want to do some more hiking in certain areas I recommend spending 3 days. There are plenty of bush lodges to stay at along the way. If you only have one day (like we did) I recommend seeing the following:

1. Blyde River Canyon
2. Three Rondavels
3. God’s Windows
4. Berlin Falls
5. Mac Mac Falls
6. Bourkes Luck Potholes

Resting camels in front of the Treasury at Petra.

The camel was the main form of transportation for the nomadic lifestyle of the early Nabataeans living in Jordan. When Petra was a caravan centre for trade routes from Northern Jordan to southern Arabia they were also the primary work animal.

📍The Treasury at Petra - one of the most incredible archaeological sites in the world and named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Petra was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985.

Tips for visiting Petra:

- The treasury is at its most photogenic between 9am-11am in full sunlight
- Give yourself two days, there is so much to explore (costs are 50 JD for one-day access or 55 JD for two days so it makes more sense economically too)
- Wear comfortable shoes and clothing as you will be walking for a long period of time (it is not a religious site so you are not required to cover up)
- Bring water!! There will be places to eat and drink at the Visitor Center but once you are in Petra it is less frequent
- Visit Petra by Night if time allows for it, they light the walk from the Visitor Center and all along the Siq to the Treasury with 1,500 candles

Wadi Rum Desert 🐫

How to get to Wadi Rum? The easiest way is to travel by car or private transfer from Amman or Petra. There is no direct bus from Amman to Wadi Rum. There is a tourist bus that travels from Petra to the Rum village (entrance) costing 7 JD, which takes 1.5-2 hours. We cycled from the city of Aqaba to the entrance until it got too sandy and had to trade in our bikes for a 4x4.

Due to the large size and diverse landscape of the Wadi Rum desert I recommend having a tour guide or tour operator help you explore to get the most out of your time there.

Once we arrived in Wadi Rum we spent the day driving around in the 4x4 which was exhilarating! We spotted camels, petroglyphs/inscriptions, rock formations and canyons.
After watching the sunset over the desert landscapes we spent the night in a traditional and authentic Bedouin Camp - where they recommended taking our mattresses out and sleeping under the stars🌌 All in all an unforgettable experience!

Blown away by the size and scale of the Monastery at Petra 🤯 It was definitely the highlight of my day while visiting the city of Petra.

Make sure you leave time and energy for this on your visit to Petra since a lot of people don’t end up making it to the Monastery due to its location within the city.

To see the Monastery you first have to hike 4km from the main visitor centre. This part of the hike is very easy (besides the heat, depending on the time of year you visit).

The second part of the hike starts at the Basin Restaurant, where I recommended getting a cold drink and filling up your water bottle. The hike is up hill and takes about 1 hour - it i less then 1 mile long but consists of 850 oddly spaced steps. On the way there are places to rest and enjoy the views, you will also likely be sharing the trail with some donkeys😝 the views from the top are amazing and you will lose the crowds.

Finally reached the Wadi Rum Desert after traveling a 300km distance from Amman on bike with some bus transfers.

The Wadi Rum Desert makes you feel like you are stepping foot on another planet! The desert covers an area of about 183,000 acres and features sweeping sand dunes, narrow gorges, natural arches and more🏜️

The best time to visit is March-May and September-November although it really is a year round destination.

Will you plan a trip here?

This desert landscape located in south-western Jordan looks so Alien like with its shades of red and strange rock formations. The valley even doubled as Mars in the movie The Martian with Matt Damon for this reason.

This a view from the top of the South Theatre of Jerash with the new town behind. This is the largest and oldest of the three theatres of ancient Jerash and has remained remarkably well preserved.

📍Jerash, Jordan. 50km away from Amman is this fascinating ancient Roman city. It is considered the best preserved Roman ruins outside of Italy. It was actually hidden for centuries under the desert sand and was rediscovered in the early 1800s.

I recommend hiring a guide to navigate the ruins as Jerash is such a massive complex. Jerash is one of the most visited sites in Jordan after Petra and for good reason.

Amman and Jordan will be our first stop before kicking off a bike trip through the country, so follow if you’re interested in taking to taking a trip to Jordan 🙌

Positano🫶

The most famous and iconic village of the Amalfi Coast - stacked pastel buildings, umbrella covered beaches and iconic views. It is definitely worth a day trip on your journey through the Amalfi Coast. Since it is more expensive to stay in Positano I recommend staying in nearby town, Amalfi. If you are looking for a bit of an adventure you can take the footpath known as The Sentiero delgli Dei (The Path of the Gods) starting in Agerola and descending down to Arienzo beach at the end via 1800 steps. From here the center of Positano can be reached by following the SS163 for approx. 1km.

At the end of your hike grab some fresh lunch and enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean sea on the beautiful pebbled beach of Positano!
