New Year’s Resolution: lose the weight we gained on our last two cruises. 😂

Haha! But seriously… This is the fitness center on Riverside Mozart, a double-wide river cruise ship. Partially because of the width of ship, it’s huge! And beautiful.

👀 We’ve been to Budapest a couple of times so when we saw that an excursion to Godollo palace was an option with Riverside Cruises, we were excited to see something different in the city.

It was first built by a wealthy lawyer and later purchased by the country as a royal wedding gift to Franz Ferdinand and Elizabeth. The building was expanded and became the favorite residence of “Sisi,” as the Queen was called.

It fell into disrepair decades later, long after Sisi passed, and was purchased by Hungary for restorations to begin.

Today you can tour some of the modest yet interesting rooms that were restored.

It was warm and cozy inside during our winter tour…but we imagine the gardens are beautiful to walk around during warm seasons.

📖 Have you ever read Anne of Green Gables?

We have not, but after going to the area that inspired Canadian author ✍️ Lucy Maud Montgomery to write it (her home, essentially) during our New England and Canada cruise with , we couldn’t help but gain interest!

Isn’t it so lovely? What is left of her home is located on Prince Edward Island, which is a fantastic place to visit in Nova Scotia and should be on everybody’s travel bucketlist.

Apparently the book and this site is popular with Japanese tourists because it’s required reading for them in school. 🇯🇵

📷 Here is a packing list MUST for a trip to Alaska or any wildlife cruise: a lens that gets you to at least a 400mm focal length. Even better if it’s 600mm+.

★ 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿

After renting a Nikon lens a few years ago for our Maine Windjammer cruise we opted for a Sigma lens with better focus that cost less in the end. We purchased the Sigma 150-600mm in this photo.

It was the first non-Nikon lens Mikkel ever purchased. But this lens, right here, is epic and worth the investment! As was every penny spent with to test the Nikon lens too.

Get good gear if you are documenting your travels. You won’t regret it!

Visiting Kasaan was a small ship cruise dream!

We had a native Haida guide who took us around to the island’s totem poles and told us his story of returning to Alaska at 32 with his wife and kids, to raise them in a safe communal environment.

We picked huckleberries and thistle berries as we walked through the rain forest.

Days later, we would reach Ketchikan where we saw the original totem poles preserved at Totem Heritage Center.

Never did we see a big cruise ship dock where we did with because the majority of where we traveled was to places that only small ships can visit. 😍

Having these places to ourselves was truly memorable!

When the Mount Vesuvius eruption at Pompeii is so many centuries ago that you can take a cheeky photo like this when you visit with writer friends.🥸

It’s a wild destination unlike what we thought it would be (we expected lava covered bodies everywhere - nope. Mostly abandoned ruins from the village that was there.
