A look at what made the Poconos a outdoor recreation mecca and what lies ahead.

We did a deep dive into why New Hope is so well-known as an art community: a fascinating transition from early 20th century impressionism, Broadway to craft. Here's the story, before you head out on Bikeout's digital trip Guide, Culture and camping on the Delaware Canal.

A look at more than 120 years of art history in New Hope.

Our first digital Guide explores the length of Delaware Canal State Park, a sixty-mile-long state park! We talked to Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor and Friends of the Delaware Canal about what makes the park so special.

Nature is trying to reclaim this historic, manmade canal system.

Back in early March, we were close to announcing the details of our first trip outside of Philly, in Atlanta, before we had to change gears. We were lucky to have the guidance of Devin Cowens, who started the city's WTF Bikexplorers chapter, focused on getting more women, transgender, femme, and/or non-binary people involved in the biking community. We spoke to her about her own story getting involved in the cycling community and what she's working on now.

Cowens, who started a WTF Bikexplorers chapter in Atlanta last year and works with the East Coast Greenway, shares how she got started in the bicycle community and how she’s working to share it with more people.

Hey everyone, just a quick update for folks that aren't on our email list.

We've decided to indefinitely postpone our large group trips in 2020, including our planned, upcoming Phoenixville and Atlanta trips. For anyone that purchased tix already, we'll be issuing refunds starting May 11.

We're deeply bummed to have to make this decision, but we're putting our energy into other ways we can connect with riders this year and hope to be sharing more on that soon. A big thanks to everyone who's already reached out and supported us in one way or another. And a forward promotion that we *do* still very much want to host our small group Finger Lakes multi-day trip, planned for August, and will be announcing more on that soon. We have some details already available on the Bikeout website.

Follow the link below for more info on our decision, and we'll see you soon

This article will be regularly updated with new information about plans related to Covid-19.

Your weekend read: How does bike travel and tourism impact local communities? Look no further than the Great Allegheny Passage, a 150-mile rails-to-trail bike path from Pittsburgh, PA to Cumberland, Maryland, which has been a leading example of how cycling can be an agent of economic change in small communities along the trail. We asked freelance writer Andrew Zaleski to take a closer look at what's working along the GAP.

The 150-mile path through west Pennsylvania and Maryland is showing that a bike trail can be an agent of economic change.

Here's one way to kill a few hours on a chilly Tuesday: browse 500 years of natural history illustrations in the digital Biodiversity Library.

A cursory search landed us at an 1897 issue of Recreation, "a monthly magazine devoted to everything the name implies," with lots of writing on the new sport of cycling: https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/127826 /7/mode/1up

For our Philadelphia friends, do a local search and you'll quickly run across programs for the Philadelphia Flower Show archive, like this one from 1966: https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/212157 /7/mode/1up

Since we launched our first overnight trip in 2016, more than 1,000 riders have traveled with Bikeout. Now, we're hoping to offer the experience to more people by expanding our Overnight trips to new cities and launching our first multi-day Getaway.

We're so excited to be sharing our plans - we've also completely refreshed our website with a design highlighting our focus on new trips, new stories and new communities. Give it a look and tell us what you think :)

We're taking our flagship Overnight ride series to Atlanta, Chicago, New York City and Washington D.C. and launching our first multi-day Getaway.

Politeia Le believes yoga is about much more than movement. At his studio in New Hope, which he opened in 2017, Le has blended elements of modern dance, kinesiology, somatics and pilates, with a deeper understanding of the practice. By mixing the art and physicality of dance with the roots of an established mental exercise, you might say Le is trying to reverse-engineer the idea of modern yoga. At Bikeout: New Hope, Le will lead a session specifically for cyclists, and we’ve collaborated on a short illustrated guide for anyone looking to connect with themselves before or after a ride. In the bedroom community of Flemington, New Jersey, longtime residents Todd Becker and his friend Bob King were avid home brewers, before they decided to take a bet on opening Lone Eagle Brewing in 2016. A few national awards later, and waiting on an expanded facility, they’ll be serving lager and IPAs at Bikeout: New Hope. At Bikeout: New Hope, attendees will have a chance to experience the D&L Trail, a nearly complete, 165-mile multi-use trail that celebrates the region's deep history, and is helping to reinvigorate the communities along the way. Attendees will see only one section of a much longer trail path, with its own distinct regions and changing landscapes. We asked Trails Program Manager Brian Greene to share some of his favorite spots along the D&L Trail, for any riders interested in traveling farther on their next journey. https://www.bikeoutphl.com/four-highlights-on-the-dl-trail-from-program-manager-brian-greene/ // 📸

That’s Francisco, with a giant speaker on his front rack 📻 At any Bikeout, the variety of people playing music along the way makes for an experience not unlike AM/FM channel surfing: riding by, it might not be what you expect, but the moment catches up with the mood and you discover something new. We asked former Bikeout group leads and to share their perfect playlist for a long-distance ride. Check it out here: https://www.bikeoutphl.com/playlists-to-keep-you-moving-at-bikeout-new-hope/
