Fiji airways premier lounge in Nadi is a great place to spend a few hours, especially with kids. For Americans, Canadians, kiwis and Aussies traveling between the continents it’s also a really good alternative stop over and a great option once again for families. Fiji Airways is a Oneworld connect partner for those with elite membership of relevant Oneworld partners, but the lounge can also be accessed through priority pass/lounge key.

Fiji Airways has a solid offering, with their A350, up to date business class flat beds, warm and friendly service and decent food. It’s a primarily a leisure airline but compared to alternatives to Fiji (often flying narrow body aircraft), and as a different route from NZ or Australia to USA it’s a great choice.

Another Qantas fail today. Catering forgot to load the oven trays onto QF418 from MEL to SYD. This meant there was no hot food and minimal catering in Business class. While this could be perceived as a first world problem, when cash fares are $700 one way it’s not really acceptable, and is just another of the issues with this beleaguered airline. With competitors half the price on this route there is no real differentiation or justification when catering is wrong. (This is the second flight in as many weeks I’ve had on this route with catering issues).

With so much being written about lost baggage on , it was concerning to see this (red roller bag lying on the hard stand) on Sunday night at MEL Domestic. Even more disappointing were the baggage handlers some 50m away seemingly oblivious to this FOD hazard!

Singapore Airlines business class on their Boeing 787 (and Airbus A350) is a great product. Plenty of space, although non side sleepers may find the offset footrest a little awkward. Of course the service from the SQ staff is impeccable. Contact us if you want to know how you could be flying here instead of down the back.

Do you collect amenity kits from your business and first class flights? Having the convenience of a toothbrush, moisturizer etc provided in business and first can often save needing to pack and carry the items through security and all the liquids and clear plastic bag hassle that entails. even provide an economy comfort pack within their international lounges for status pax flying in economy. Features here left top clockwise: Cathay pacific, Japan airlines, Singapore airlines, Finnair economy and 2 Finnair business amenity packs.

A brilliant Japanese sunrise as a JAL b787 taxis in. Unfortunately due to the Tonga Volcano eruption and associated volcanic ash, my JAL flight was cancelled and I spent ~24 hours at the JAL lounge at Tokyo Narita. It’s a long story but provided lots of opportunity to experience new things and take pictures. I love the Japanese sunrise. It’s always special.

Finnair Business Class lounge (non Schengen) at Helsinki. While I’d normally go@to the Platinum Wing, that lounge is closed due to COVID. Still the Business Lounge is a fantastic offering from Finnair.

A lot of people especially in Australia, are concerned to travel at this time due to the COVID situation. My experience of travel to Europe is there is possibly no better time. Airports are empty, planes are empty (giving a high chance of a spare seat next to you). Queues are short and apart from government mandated COVID tests, everything is easy. As a tip for Aussies travelling, your Australian government “international COVID certificate” is likely not worth the paper it’s written on and won’t be accepted in many places. If you are going to Europe, get an EU COVID digital certificate…there are a number of ways. Will make life much easier.

I normally post about air travel and hotels, but sometimes it makes sense to go by train. In fact with carbon emissions / environmental concerns becoming more relevant many airlines in Europe are moving to train travel as an alternate for short trips (sometimes even with the airlines flight number). Of course securing a premium “cabin” on the train can also help with comfort and COVID social distancing. Shown here “Ekstra class” on Finnish rail between Helsinki and Turku.

American Express have some great lounge options. This is their European flagship in conjunction with Pontus at Stockholm Armand’s (ARN). Arlanda has very few airline lounge options outside of Star Alliance (SAS) and the ones that do exist for other alliances are poor quality. This is where the AMEX lounge is fantastic. Restaurant quality food, less crowded and a better atmosphere. Accessible to American Express platinum change card and centurion card members and their supplementary card holders.
