Watching kids play Minecraft and seeing their imaginations soar fills me with wonder. It got me thinking about how incredible it would be if someone could build a historical world based on their own tour experiences.

That's why I'm creating Beyond The Map London. It's not just another sightseeing app it's a passion project that aims to spark a love for history, much like how Minecraft inspires creativity. I like to call it "Walkcraft," where exploring London on foot becomes an enriching journey that's good for both the body and the mind.

For me, Beyond The Map London is about more than just seeing the sights. It's about social prescribing, offering a healthy alternative to medication by engaging the senses, encouraging movement, and fostering a thirst for knowledge. I believe in the power of kinetic learning and how it can transform lives through London's rich stories.

This isn't just sightseeing; it's about creating meaningful experiences and making history come alive.

If I could sit down with my younger self and share one piece of advice about what truly matters in the real world, here's what I'd say:

Be Proactive Approach

I've found that anticipating challenges and taking the initiative is vital. I’m not one to wait around for problems to appear—I prefer to stay ahead of the curve and tackle things head-on.

Have a ‘Can-Do Attitude’

A positive, "can-do" attitude is everything to me. When faced with a new idea, I always look for ways to brainstorm solutions instead of getting bogged down by potential obstacles.

Be Accountable

We all mess up, including me. What matters most is learning from those mistakes and taking responsibility. Owning up to errors and showing a willingness to grow is what I believe defines a strong work ethic.

Under the warm sunshine, a group of intrepid explorers embarked on our latest Beyond the Map historical walk: Wapping - Pirates, Painters, and Pints. Their journey culminated at the iconic Prospect of Whitby! 🌞🚶‍♂️

Well done to the Crew of the Black Pearl, who emerged victorious in the onboard quiz. And let’s not forget the landlord of Turner’s Star, regaling everyone with grizzly tales from bygone days—successfully avoiding the hangman’s noose at the Prospect of Whitby!

Dr. Green’s audio clips added an extra layer of enjoyment, immersing everyone in the historical context. Soon, thanks to Sugar Creatives’ “back in time” 3D scenery, our GPS-triggered “Time Machine” will be complete! ⏳🌟

A TIME MACHINE IN YOUR POCKET.

Yesterday as the Founder of Beyond the Map with my two brilliant Delivery Partners, Dr Matthew Green and Will Humphrey from Sugar Creative supported by Shaun Keeble my interim CMO
we enjoyed a coffee table chat at the Prospect of Whitby. Together we discussed our journey so far and the challenges ahead .

What is Beyond The Map London all about?

It started as a group of intrepid London explorers who as a group of friends would tour London cracking clues and taking in new sights and a few taverns too.

We are a sightseeing experience with a difference. We want to take people back in time. Through the expertise of Sugar Creative and immersive technology via your smartphone, we will allow users to be able to see how the streets of London would have looked like hundreds of years ago. Then through Dr. Matthew Green's narration, you will truly be taken back to the streets of London that time forgot.

The next stage of our journey needs investment and we are actively looking for a target investment of £250, 000 with our first milestone being £70.000.

Our walk will take you on a fascinating journey where you can test our sensory and oratory features into the rich and at times troubled history of this iconic London neighbourhood!

You will learn about the criminal underworld of Wapping, the pivotal role the area played in the maritime trade routes of the British Empire, and the unique architectural styles that define the district. From learning about the dark and colourful characters who have walked the streets before you to the legendary pubs to awe-inspiring churches, our Beyond The Map London Wapping walk will cover it all.

Walking around the markets of London yesterday was extremely nostalgic, a remembrance of adventures past, a wonderful glimpse of the future. We trekked through the markets of London, testing a walk that’s in development centred around visiting the wonderful bustling markets that exist here in London as we love them and want to support these communities who’ve been hit hard and celebrate what our London markets have to offer and their fascinating history - they’re full of colour, exotic smells and food not just for your belly, but for your eyes and thoughts. Happy Bonfire Night!

Happy Bonfire Night from us at Beyond the Map London! On this day in 1605, King James I's Parliament declared November 5 as a day to celebrate the monarch's survival from a failed treasonous plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament while the King was inside.
