I love holidays & everything to do with travel.
We are lucky enough to go on a few holidays a year. I recently posted about Cyprus our absolute favourite place to go abroad but we also love our holidays in the UK.
I have to tell you about the most amazing little piece of paradise I was lucky enough to find. A few years ago I was looking for somewhere a bit special to take my husband for his birthday. I found RyePark House at Bratton Flemming (near Lynton & Lynmouth) in North Devon.
Wow what an absolutely stunning place I found, we had a wonderful holiday there & we now can’t stay away. We are very lucky enough to stay at least 3 times a year & arriving at the top of the driveway really feels like coming home!!
A little about RyePark House
RyePark House offers you an adult only site, for couples to escape to and relax in. We have three unique, separate and private one bedroom self-catering properties, The Barn, The Stables and Keepers Watch. The properties are set in 11 acres, all of which you are free to explore including pasture, ancient woodland, areas left for nature and all bordered by a babbling river. We are just off Exmoor in a fantastic location within easy reach of all that North Devon has to offer.
Who are we?
We are Steve and Maria McCarthy and we moved here in late August, 2015, with our then teenage children Luke and Ellie and our dog. We left Tonbridge in Kent to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the South East and found RyePark House purely by chance – so glad that we did – it is the most wonderful place to live, we are so very lucky. We can now do all those things that we had dreamt about – growing our own vegetables and having our own animals and living a much more sustainable life. Our family has expanded to include, 2 cats, 13 sheep and 7 chickens and will be adding more as time goes on.
Why Choose us?
As well as providing you with a little bit of luxury and a very personal service we think holiday cottages should also be about location and we have the best location! We are surrounded by beauty, ancient woodland, a babbling river, untouched land left for wildlife, pasture and farmland but despite all of that we are right in the middle of everything located just off Exmoor and its stunning coastline, close to the beaches of the golden coast and the market towns and villages of the area, what more could you ask for. Everything you need for that well deserved break!!
Why do we have Holiday lets?
The peace and beauty of RyePark House is just too good not to share. Our aim is to provide a romantic escape to the country for couples in this tucked away setting to let others experience what we have been so lucky to find. We want to offer luxury with everything provided that cross over between hotel feel but self-catering Independence and all at a reasonable price and I think once you have visit us you will agree we have achieved just that.
What are the Properties?
THE BARN
The old Shippon (single story cow shed) has been converted into a wonderful, well equipped, one-bedroom self-catering holiday accommodation, with the luxury of a king-size bed with Egyptian cotton bedding and your own private Hot Tub. The Barn has been available since June 2016 it is proving to be very popular, have a read of some of our reviews. It is all finished to a high standard with Neff appliances through out, and offers a real sense of home from home, a calm and relaxing space.
THE STABLES
The Stables, is our latest addition and is another one bedroom barn conversion it was completed in summer 2019. This is, in our opinion, the best of the three, it is certainly the largest- it has a wow factor with its large light mezzanine bedroom, with a super king bed, and vaulted ceiling. In addition The Stables has a large bathroom with a double ended deep bath and separate walk in rainfall shower, a very modern kitchen with Neff appliances, induction hob, large fridge freezer and boiling water tap not to mention the underfloor heating and wood burning stove. As if this was not enough there is also a private south facing terrace with table and chairs for al-fresco dinning and sunbathing! The Stables really has everything you need and more for a wonderful escape to the country.
KEEPERS WATCH
Available since summer 2017 our tiny house is a spacious bright shepherds hut with all en suite facilitates and a fully functioning kitchen. It has the most amazing views of the ancient woodland and river valley and is set apart from the house and Barns tucked away in the bank at the top of the hill. It has all the luxury of the Barns with a double bed, Egyptian cotton bedding, fluffy towels, 100% soft British wool rugs, a fire pit with BBQ and luxurious woollen duvet and pillows. Here you can really connect with nature and the wildlife that surrounds us. As with the Barns all at a reasonable price.
There are some wonderful towns & villages to visit nearby, our favourites are Lynton & Lynmouth, Barnstaple is great too! If you visit Lynton & are a candle lover a visit to Lyn Candles is a must. He makes stunning smelling candles, wax melts, diffusers etc plus accessories. You will be greeted by John & his daughter Misty who are really lovely & will help you with anything you need! We love self catering, no set times for meals & we can come & go as we please. We take breakfast & snacks & eat out in some fabulous pubs & restaurants, some of our favourite are;

To say these beautiful barns are a home from home is an understatement. They really do have everything you could possibly want or need & are absolutely spotless! The beds are so comfortable & luxurious you are guaranteed a wonderful nights sleep. The lounges are the perfect places to relax, comfortable stylish furniture with large tv’v including all the apps you could possibly want. The bathrooms have rainfall showers & the bath in the stables is amazing!! The hot tub in The Barn is the perfect place to relax & chill. The kitchens have everything you would have in your own kitchen at home & will probably give you ideas for things you didn’t even know you needed! I really could go on but I’ll let you find out for yourselves how wonderfulI RyePark House is, we absolutely love it!
Maria & Steve are the perfect hosts, you could not find two nicer, friendlier, welcoming & helpful people who go the extra mile to ensure you have the most wonderful stay!
