Cheers to an amazing 2023 season here at Castaway! 👏🏼🥳
From sunrise to sunset we had an absolute blast out on the waters that we love so much! 🌅
We want to give a huge shoutout to all of our locals for the continued support, all of our guests, family and friends that made this season possible! 🤗
Castaway will be closed for the winter but we will be back in action Spring of 2024 and look forward to seeing all of you out on the water with us again🌊🐬🌴

🍂We are officially in our last month of being open in 2023! So come enjoy the 🌞 nicest weather of the year on our waters!🐬 October 22nd will be the last day offering fun on our waterways until March 2024 when we reopen for next season! 🍾

🐚We are still in full operation with boat/kayak/paddleboard Excursions until then! We hope to close the season out strong!

A little history for you on this Thursday morning📖🤓
Did you know that the lighthouse we see today was not the first one to be constructed in its spot?
In 1673 the first settlers of what is now “Morris Island” built a navigational aid on the island that was less of a light house and more of an open structure in which a ball of lit oakum and pitch was raised into the air in an iron basket.
In the late 1700’s a formal lighthouse was built but was soon destroyed in the revolutionary war and then again in the civil war so it could not be used as a lookout.
Our lighthouse that we see today was built in 1876 and has endured earthquakes, hurricanes and immense erosion leading to it’s retirement as a beacon of light…we hope to continue to enjoy it for years to come as the Charleston icon that it now is.

One of my favorite questions is “who cuts all that grass out there?” 🌾
Here in South Carolina we have over 300,000 acres of this “grass” which is called Spartina. Spartina is an annual plant therefore during these summer months it is bright green, come fall it will begin to bloom, and by mid winter it will die and look like “brown sticks.” Those sticks, known as “wrack,” decompose and release all of their nutrients back into our ecosystem🌊
Fun fact for you locals: If you have been experiencing some summertime allergies - the spartina is in the early stages of blooming! 🤧
