A weekend in Aljezur, Portugal // Meet Nadja Buseck (.von.buseck), who works at the intersection of art and hospitality; creating concepts for clients and running her own guesthouses combined with artist residencies 👋🏼. Nadja took us around to her favourite spots in Aljezur...
🔙 Backstory on .wan & .about.now
"Having grown up in a five-star family hotel in Salzburg, Austria, creating personalized travel experiences has always been apart of my life. I studied art history in Berlin, London, and Vienna. After gaining international art and travel knowledge, I founded Where About Now in Berlin, a set of experiences and spaces in art and hospitality & Casa WAN in Aljezur, a test site for art and hospitality experiences, developed as the physical product of the work I have done."
🛏️ "At Casa WAN (.wan), I invite international or local artists whose work deals with the themes of travel, hospitality, mobility, transit or movement to stay cost-free for up to one month. Guests who stay at Casa WAN directly support and gain insight into an artist’s practice and explore the creative practices within the countryside (ask for private tours and meals to be organized at the spots below)."
🧺 "A friend of the house Ysaline Ophoff (.balance) offers objects, workshops and custom work in 'Empreita de Palma', a traditional basket weaving technique from the Algarve using handpicked and sun-dried palm leaves."
🧵 "Vanessa Barragão () lives in neighbouring region Albufeira. She is a textile artist working with
tapestries, carpets and textile sculptures, incorporating abstract collages reminiscent of seascapes."
🪑 "Book Southern Modernism tours in Faro by inspiring friends of the house The Modernist Faro ()."
🛍️ "Shop curated vintage & secondhand selection of
clothes & furniture at Retro Activo (.aljezur)"
🏖️ "Visit my favourite beach Amalia (), named after the famous fado singer and icon of Portugal and located under her former estate."
