Before we drift into another year, we still need to honor one more Hero for 2017.

For the final “Hero of the Month” in 2017, we wish to celebrate and honor the life of a 2nd generation, 52-year member/firefighter & staple in the Vermont Fire Service Chief Bob Jenkins. Bob helped educate generations of firefighters and transformed how Vermont fire departments approach training and the science of fighting fires. Among achievements of many ranks between both the Vergennes & Ferrisburgh Fire Departments, county and state levels; he also received the Vermont State Firefighters Chief of the Year Award.

Known for his leadership, mentorship, dedication & smile, his focus was on the efforts of the group rather than the individual. In fact, his earliest actions of creating a mutual aid agreement that still stands strong today! Last July, the Ferrisburgh Volunteer Fire Department (FVFD) dedicated their newest Engine 616 to Bob. Today, you can read the plaque on the side that speaks volumes. “Always leading, always teaching, we dedicate truck 616 to Chief Robert ‘Bob’ Jenkins who through his example, taught us that leaders are not measured by their own accomplishments but rather by the accomplishments of those they lead.”

With over 600+ in attendance recently at his funeral, the Addison County Firefighter's Association "Funeral Assistance Team" that he was instrumental in starting, was the same team that would provide his final alarm.

We salute you Chief Bob Jenkins for your dedication to us all, your family, fire department(s) and community as a whole. RIP
