Winter offers some of Colorado's best stargazing! There is less moisture in the cold air than in the balmy summer months, which produces clearer nights and brighter stars!

What a beautiful final resting place ..... where Heaven touches the Earth.
The deer roam through here and the foxes chase one another across the road. The dark skies in this area allow you to see ALL the stars. It's simply a peaceful setting.
I was lucky to spend some quality time with my husband and my dad who were such good sports shining the lights for me to help light the foreground.

The last lunar eclipse of the year took place last night and it was a beautiful sight. Did you know that this was the longest partial lunar eclipse since 1440? Wow!

Check out this incredible photo of the Beaver Moon by Scott Dankof Photography, taken in Custer County, CO.

Where I am in Colorado, 100% cloud cover was forecast for last nights Lunar Eclipse. About 1/2 hour before the maximum eclipse the clouds blew out and there it was.

Colorado Stargazing

Colorado Stargazing connects several Colorado locations known for their dark skies and incredible stargazing opportunities. It also highlights dark-sky events and encourages the conservation and preservation of all of Colorado’s natural and cultural resources. Among the locations below, visitors will find International Dark-Sky Association Designated Communities, areas just starting the designation process and everything in between. Regardless, all of these communities are unified by their high elevation and low humidity, allowing for some of the best stargazing in the world.
