The offseason has been busy at the Whittled Duck! Tim added some baseboard heat to the bedrooms and the bathroom as a second heating zone AND we got the new wood stove (complete with BAKER BOX) installed.

We've been busy with winter projects! We've pointed the stone on the wall, cut out some flooring and upgraded the base for the wood stove. The mantle got a facelift too! (Also turns out cooking outside on the fire is good anytime of the year!)

We saw another pair of otters yesterday (maybe the same from the day before) but upriver about another mile or so. Cold rainy, snowy days are great for spotting them. The pictures with both of them didn't turn out very well but this one is pretty sweet! If you come spend a few days in Cook Forest, slowly cruise River Road and maybe you'll see them too!

What a wonderfully (mostly) mild fall we've had this year! It's the end of November, the hunters are out everywhere, it's almost 50 degrees, and it's a beautiful day on the Clarion!

The river is UP this morning! What a great day to be up on the hill with a view. The water line has reached the bottom of our stairs, our favorite river sitting rocks are covered, and the current is moving fast.

Did you know it's just over an hour from camp to Benezette? We drove up there this morning and it did not disappoint! The leaves were fantastic, we saw SO MANY ELK, and so much great scenery! There is no sound like an elk bugling in the early morning. In addition to our usual stops at the visitor center, Winslow Hill, and the Dents Run Overlook we also visited the Hicks Run Viewing Area, The Cross, and The Little Chapel on the Hill. If you haven't been to Benezette yet you should probably go!

It's the most wonderful time of the year 🍃🍁🍂. We had the greatest day yesterday! During our float trip from Heath Station to the Barnett Boat Launch we say 3 eagles, a blue herring, a green herring, a Canada goose, king fishers, 3 kids of ducks, and so many cedar wax wings - all while relaxing in the cool crisp air and warm sun of a perfect fall day. We followed it up with dinner cooked over an open flame, drinks on the deck, and great company around the campfire. 🍂🍁🍃

Well, as luck would have it, we found ourselves at the river tonight without a single camera or cell phone - and do you know what we saw?? Otters! 3 otters coming right up to our rock. It was awesome! 🦦🦦🦦. I wish I could have snapped a picture to share with you! Maybe we'll be luckier next time 🙂

Oh, what a beautiful morning! Fresh flowers, sunlight glistening on the river, and a back roads drive that took us through 4 counties and included parts of Cook Forest State Park, Clear Creek State Forest, and the ANF. What a glorious place to be!
