A set of 350-year-old embroideries have finally gone back on display at Birmingham’s Aston Hall after 10 years of painstaking restoration.

The embroidered bed hangings adorn the 17th century bed in the room where King Charles I stayed in 1642, thanks to the careful restoration by a team of conservators and volunteers at Birmingham Museums.

The linen had rotted away so badly that the embroideries were in danger of being lost forever. So, in 2009 the conservation team at Birmingham Museums enrolled the help of heritage volunteers from The Arts Society in Arden, Solihull and Friends of Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery to help with the lengthy but important restoration project.

What was the Roundhouse? What is the Roundhouse now? And why is it round?
Find out on this introductory guided tour of the Roundhouse site from just £7 pp

You’ll discover the Roundhouse’s journey from busy, noisy, Victorian depot, right through to modern-day hub with a new lease of life. A curious survivor of horses, manual workers, dereliction drama, live music and (almost) puppets.

This tour has an interactive twist or two, so be prepared to get involved…

Please Note: The newly revived Roundhouse is extremely photogenic. Bring a charged smartphone!

Whilst the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is closed to the general public, they are still able to welcome group visits of 10 - 50 guests for a wonderful visit including a guided tour for £11.50 per person. Add on refreshments, lunch and guidebooks as you need them.

The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter is built around a perfectly preserved jewellery workshop offering a unique glimpse of working life in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter.

When the proprietors of the Smith & Pepper jewellery manufacturing firm retired in 1981 they simply ceased trading and locked the door, unaware they would be leaving a time capsule for future generations.

Today the factory is a remarkable museum, which tells the story of the Jewellery Quarter and Birmingham’s renowned jewellery and metalworking heritage.

We are delighted to be able to welcome group visits to Soho House where we can welcome groups of 10 - 30 guests for a wonderful visit including a guided tour from just £10.75 per person.

Soho House was the elegant home of the industrialist and entrepreneur Matthew Boulton from 1766 to 1809.

The house has been beautifully restored and reflects the fashions and tastes of the late Georgian period.

There’s also the chance to see some of the products of Boulton’s nearby factory – where buttons and buckles, clocks and vases, and silver and Sheffield plate tableware were made – and where he developed the steam engine in partnership with James Watt.

Soho House was also a favourite meeting place of the Lunar Society, a leading Enlightenment group. The Lunar Society would meet every month on the night of the full moon to dine, conduct experiments, and discuss philosophical matters of the day.

Members of the society included Erasmus Darwin, James Watt and Joseph Priestly who all gathered around the Lunar Room table and engaged in a lively exchange of ideas which inspired many new discoveries and inventions.

Add on tea and biscuits for £3, cream tea or soup lunch for £6.50
