SCUBA QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

If you get cold while diving and can’t stop shaking or shivering, what should you do?

(A) Do not move your arms or legs at all as this will only decrease your body temperature.

(B) Conserve your body heat by swimming slowly.

(C) Swim harder and kick your legs while moving your arms to increase your body temperature.

(D) Call (stop) the dive immediately. Get out of the water and dry off and put on something warm.

SCUBA QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

At a depth of 10 meters/33 feet, air will increase by twice its size when brought to the surface. We know this is why we always breathe when ascending so that we don’t injure our lungs from over-expansion.

Let’s say our BCD is 75% full of air (let’s say you’re over-weighted) and we'll assume that you were able to ascend slowly and safely to the surface without purging any air from your BCD. That means that you would have 150% of the air that you had in your BCD at 10 meters/33 feet. What would happen to your BCD?

(A) BCDs are required by law to be made from flexible material that will allow for the container to expand and hold more air.

(B) This is why you purge air from your BCD on ascent. Your BCD cannot be over-pressurized and would burst and create a dangerous situation for you and your dive buddy.

(C) There are valves that will automatically release the air to prevent damage to your BCD.

(D) The high-pressure air would go back into your SCUBA tank.
