The Potter Park Zoo works hard to keep their snow leopards fed. Did you know that snow leopards can eat 2.5-3.5 lbs of meat daily? That's about the equivalent of SEVEN hamburgers at 8 oz each!

Now here's a zoo birth you don't see every day. Brookfield Zoo Chicago is thrilled to announce that Allie the bottlenose dolphin gave birth to a beautiful calf at 12:22 a.m. on June 7 — the first dolphin calf born at the Zoo in over a decade!

Shortly after birth, Allie, with the help of experienced mom Tapeko, guided the newborn up to the surface for its very first breath. Veterinarians estimate the calf weighs between 33-37 pounds and measures about 45-47 inches long. While these are still very early days, the zoo's dedicated animal care and veterinary teams are closely monitoring both Allie and her calf minute-by-minute to track important developmental milestones. So far, both mom and baby appear healthy and thriving!

My, what big ears you have, Bekku and Aurora. Meet the new fennec foxes at the Stone Zoo in Stoneham, Massachusetts!

The world's smallest fox species is well adapted to life in the desert. Those charmingly enormous ears help them dissipate excess heat while their light fur helps them camouflages with the sand.

Say hello to Zephyr, the Roger Williams Park Zoo & Carousel Village's new male serval! This handsome 14-month-old serval came to Rhode Island from Greensboro Science Center, an AZA facility in North Carolina as a breeding recommendation for the Roger Williams Zoo's female, Velma.

Named after Zephyros, the Greek god of the West Wind, Zephyr was born on the first day of spring and brings all the fresh energy that comes with it! The zoo is thrilled to welcome Zephyr to his new home and are excited for what the future may hold for him and Velma.

It looks like Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo has some new residents. Chinese Gorals have arrived at the Zoo! Native to the rugged mountains of Asia, these elusive creatures are part goat, part antelope, and 100% fascinating.

Originally from zoos in Kansas and Nebraska, this SSP (Species Survival Plan) pair is here with a mission: to help conserve a species you won’t see just anywhere. For now, they’re settling into the former tiger habitat, but soon they’ll move next door to the Red Pandas in a new exhibit alongside the White-Naped Crane!

We found ourselves with a little time to kill yesterday before catching the Cape May-Lewes ferry so I was able to make an unexpected stop at the Cape May County Park/Zoo! We only had about an hour to spend at the zoo but I really enjoyed our time there. Though donations are encouraged the Cape May Zoo is free to enter and it was really nice seeing so many people out enjoying this accessible local resource. I loved watching their capybaras lounge around in the sun and really appreciated their beautiful Africa section which takes you through a lovely wooded section of New Jersey wetlands.

Here's a sweet story of friendship from Colorado's Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. In May, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s 12-year-old okapi, Bahati [buh-HAH-tee], got a new home – and a new roommate – in CMZoo’s tapir yard.

For his first day in the tapir yard, Bahati got the entire space. His care team wanted him to explore, make his mark and have maximum space to settle in. He did incredibly well, and his team set him up for success by planting a new willow tree and hanging lots of tree branches throughout the yard, which kept him engaged throughout the day.

By the end of the day, Bahati had explored nearly everything to his heart’s content. But, one new sound and smell particularly caught his curiosity. Bahati wanted to see Mochi!

You can read more about Bahati and Mochi here: https://www.cmzoo.org/news/archive/bahati-and-mochi-a-match-made-in-the-tapir-habitat/
