Let’s talk toiletry bags…
Yes, I know it’s tempting to choose a big, beautiful toiletry bag…one with lots of pockets for all of your beauty necessities, but before you start packing up those toiletries…STOP and ask yourself: Is this helping or hindering my packing light endeavors?
This is the bag for your non-liquid toiletries: Q-tips, tweezers, razors, hair accessories, naill clippers, etc.
When your toiletry bag is almost as big as your suitcase, it’s safe to say it’s way too big.
My personal toiletry bag is pretty small. It has a hook for hanging, which is essential in those tiny hotel bathrooms. The two clear pockets make it easy to find what I need. Is it the prettiest bag? Definitely not, but it’s small which keeps me on track to pack smart and pack light.

What is a +1 Personal Item?When you fly, the airlines allow you to bring two bags on board. Check the weather.
Pull out all of your clothing possibilities (I like to use a rolling rack.)
Start trying everything on. (This is a crucial step to make sure outfit combinations actually look good and to make sure you feel great in what you’ve chosen.)
WRITE IT DOWN! Plan each day on your itinerary with your outfits. (The more versatile the travel capsule wardrobe, the more combinations you can make and the more options you’ll have to change your mind when you’re actually on your trip.)
Minimize toiletries.
Layer, roll, wedge, and cram it all in that suitcase!

I often get asked: “What are the best sneakers for travel?”
‼️ That’s a tough question to answer! Our feet are different, and I haven’t tried every shoe out there, but I have three personal favorites that I feel confident recommending.
➡️ The first is the Ethyl by Sam Edelman. Classic white that goes with everything, I’ve worn them all over Italy…multiple times!
➡️ The second is the Zena by Dolce Vita. This shoe has cute details and comes in a ton of colors. I have also worn this one around Europe and find it very comfortable and versatile enough to wear with practically everything.
➡️ The third is the Dolan, also by Dolce Vita. These shoes are like walking on a cloud, and if you don’t like the metallic, it comes in lots of fun colors and versatile neutrals.

‼️ I’ve heard tons of reasons why people overpack…and I can relate to EVERY SINGLE ONE.

It’s Friday Fly-Day, my favorite day of the week when we celebrate our love for travel and cute outfits!
Travel style is very individual, and I encourage you to wear what you love. Whether it’s sweats and a comfy sweatshirt, or jeans and a stylish blazer, it’s important to be comfortable and feel good.
For me, that means wearing pants that feel like a yoga pant, but also have a bit of style so they look elevated and classy. I like a heavy ponte fabric, especially for winter trips. They don’t wrinkle and look great, even after a long flight.
I always wear layers and bring a scarf because you just never know if the plane will be hot or freezing or both!
I love a long sweater coat not only for its coziness but also for its style.
And my shoes are always the bulkiest in my travel capsule!

One of the reasons I started Carry-On Couture is because for years I would look for ideas on “How To” create a travel capsule wardrobe, but there just wasn’t a lot of information out there.
Trip after trip went by with no luck finding what I was looking for. Finally, I was inspired to create this content, not only for myself, but also for other like-minded travelers who want to carry-on, but aren’t quite sure how to do it.
