Tony's Pizza is an institution of Nroth Beach. Tony himself has won pizza making awards all over the world from Naples to Las Vegas and the results speak for themselves.
The NY style pies are made with a sourdough crust, giving them an amazing chew and a complex flavor. The cheese pizza is melty and soft while the Pepperoni pizza has those perfect pools of oil that some people will, for some reason, dab off with a paper napkin. They're missing out.
The Margherita is one of the most classic in the neighborhood.
This was our favorite crust of the night. The vibes are always good at Tony's but it's also always one of the busiest. So expect to be on the waitlist for 15-25min.
This is the best crowd pleaser pizza. It's the common denominator. No one could leave Tony's dissatisfied.
Tony's Pizza: 1570 Stockton St, San Francisco
Flour + Water Pizzeria was our second stop in our 5 part pizza taste test in North Beach. The decor and vibe of the restaurant stand out immediately. Taking over the old Cafe Roma location, the space is huge and beautiful.
The most striking feature is that there is only crystal clear glass that separates the diners and the pizza kitchen, giving you a view of the whole process from dough to done. Sit and watch pizza after pizza get assembled until you finally see one that makes you say, "I'll have one of those."
The pizza itself has great crust that is flaky on the outside, soft on the inside and has a droop that is authentic to Napolitan style pizza. The ingredients taste fresh and vibrant and the cocktails were our favorite of the night.
Each pizza we got was finished with a drizzle of olive oil. For us, there was just a bit too much oil and it was overwhelming by the end of your second slice.
This spot is great for date night and friend groups who like the finer points in a dining experience.
Golden Boy is a neighborhood favorite for a late night, affordable slice of mouthwatering pizza.
When you smell the it from down the street you can't help it, don't resist it, you must have a slice.
They're pizza is Scicilian style. The difference is the crust. It's crispy, airy, chewy, and the slices are square. Slices are $4-$6 each. Making it the best bang for your buck in the neighborhood.
For our taste test, it's tough to compare to the Neapolitana slices. That said, Golden Boy is the best option late at night, after the bar or between the bars. For $5, it's the best deal in the city for pizza. If you like your cheese melty and your crust crispy, this is the one. It's the most convenient option as well.
When would we get it? A night out in North Beach and we wanted a casual slice, if there isn't a line, we'll grab an opportunistic slice, and we crave it often, we grab it fairly regularly.
The line can get long, but it's worth the wait. They heat up your slice when you order. They also sell them by the half sheet.
Golden Boy Pizza - 542 Green Street.
We went to 5 of the best pizza spots in North Beach for a side by side comparison so you didn't have to. But maybe you want to anyway?

In a neighborhood known for pizza, these are some of the best! The cheesiest, the crispiest, the fluffiest, the chewiest, the most flavor-packed pies in SF! Which is your favorite?
Individual videos coming soon!
Li Po - 916 Grant, is one of our favorite bars in Chinatown.
What keeps the party going here? It's of course the signature Chinese Mai Tai. 4 different types of rum, Chinese liquor (Bai ju), and pineapple juice. Blend it up with ice, and you have a sinister cocktail that you can't stop sipping.
The inside is like a cave, so slink to the back with your Mai Tais, make all the noise you want as you listen to the rock music over the speakers, and lose track of time as you party the evening away.
Li Po isn't just a bar, it's an experience.
On a personal note, this video's style was inspired by No Reservations eta Anthony Bourdain. You can dee him roll through Li Po with Mission Chinese chef Danny Bowen on the Layover SF episode. RIP Anthony.
Cassava SF - 401 Columbus Ave - is our new favorite fine dining experience for fun, creative flavors and California cuisine.
What is Cali cuisine? It's using fresh ingredients from our nearby farms to create dishes that pop! Add in influences from Italian, French, Japanese, and classic American cuisine, and you have recipes that will feel both familiar and totally new at the same time.
Yuka is an amazing host. She's carefully curated the wine list and supports small wineries. Kris is in the kitchen either cooking up crispy fried chicken, a thick burger, or a perfect duck leg.
Cassava has tasting menus for 3 or 5 course and a la carte options. Come here to impress that date, have a fine dining experience with friends, or do a company outing that your coworkers will remember fondly.

Tomasso's - 1042 Kearny St
This intimate, family-run restaurant has been serving up wood fired pizzas since WWII, back when a large pizza was 25cents!
That same wood fire oven is still what they use to make perfect pizzas, baked lasagna, lamb, and more.
We love this place because it's atmosphere is old school and the food is delicious.
It's been owned by 3 different families over the years and as of this post, its current family is looking for the next family to take it over. So come check it out before the change and after the change. Small, family run businesses like this are what make our city so special and we hope to see its legacy continue!

SFOG - 1314 Grant Ave
Where a local goes to dress like a local. We love the City and we want people to know we're proud of it. SFOG is full of original designs that do our City proud.
Whether it's neighborhood specific or the City as a whole, you can find cool designs on quality materials. Whether it's hats, hoodies, sweaters, shirts, or more, you can deck yourself out with SF loud and proud.
Mo's Grill - 1322 Grant Ave
This place has been serving locals burgers and breakfast for decades. Their spinning grill is mesmerizing and their burgers get a smokey char and melty cheese from their time on it. Their shoestring fries are crispy, light, and they give you a ton of them.
Their breakfasts are big! Don't worry, you're going to be well fed here!

So here's the story. 2ish years ago, Andrew (our Director of Content) was at SF's Japantown and his eyes dart over to the table of @benseto selling these prints. As a Ghibli nerd and a former tour guide, it was a match made in heaven.
I could hear a Joe Hisashi piano melody in my head just looking at it. My favorite Ghibli film is Kiki's Delivery Service. It's just so relatable as a small business owner in a city. And I live on Telegraph Hill, so wow, this Mewni print was tailor made for me and has been above my desk ever since.
I wanted these in our store because they capture our city's beauty, it's playfulness, and it's natural awe. It's magical living in this city and these remind me of that even when the news doesn't reflect that magic. We hope you can snag one for yourself!

Savoy Tivoli - 1434 Grant Ave
This place is a vibe and the cocktails are some of our favorites in North Beach. When in SF, there's a magic in the cold, crisp air at night. Now that it's fall, that magic is about to be in full force.
Savoy's half open, half indoor heated concept captures that magic and lets you luxuriate in it as you catch up with friends, enjoy the company of a date, or attend a concert or movie screening.
This bar is BIG! Especially by SF standards. Two whole separate rooms that would be considered large on their own. So there's never a loss of seating or a change in scenery.
The palm tree and colorful lighting transports you to a unique world that entices you to stay a while and chill.
But what about the cocktails you may ask? Delicious! Wonderfully balanced and the perfect compliment to the vibe.
So cheers to the reopening Savoy Tivoli! We'll see you under the palm tree lights.

Caffe Macaroni - 59 Columbus Ave
This is a beautiful hole in the wall Italian restaurant that has fresh seafood and perfectly cooked pasta. It's North Beach, it's known for Italian food, but this place still manages to stand out in the flavor dept.
They ended our meal with shots of house made lemoncello. It was balanced, not too sweet, not too boozey.
It's a small place where everyone feels like they're a local. You may come in a tourist, but you'll leave as family.

We're so excited to feature Millie Kowng @dreamdesigndoodle as our first artist on our gallery wall!
Each piece is a print of a watercolor. During the pandemic she began painting the businesses she missed. She started with her neighborhood of Glen Park, when she ran out of places, she started on the rest of the city.
Each piece is available for sale, ranging from $85 to $165 depending on the size and frame. Once one is gone, it's gone!
We will be featuring up to two local artists each month. Paintings, drawings, photography, graphics, and more! If you're interested in being a featured artist, drop us a DM!

Capital Restaurant - 839 Clay St
We'll never so no to a night at Capital. A huge menu full of Cantonese style delights ensures that everyone at the table can get their favorite dish and get to try something new.
Like fish? They do it great. Like mall Chinese classics like that saucy, sweet meat thing? They do it amazing. Want something wholesome like sizzling rice soup or a claypot? You're in luck because it's dope.
They've been proudly farm-to-table since the 90's. Fresh isn't just a policy here, it's common sense. Enjoy Capital, just 1 block away from Portsmouth Square!

Betty Lou's - 318 Columbus Ave
Scallops, check. Crab, check. Oysters, check. Wine, check. What else do you need?
In a neighborhood full of good Italian seafood, Betty Lou's is a standout! With a comfortable vibe, friendly service, and delicious, fresh food, we're always tempted to pop in here at the drop of a hat.
Tuesday is oyster happy hour day. Just thought you should know.

Caffe Greco - 423 Columbus Ave
Sometimes all I need is a cappuccino, a chill atmosphere, and a view. That's when I come here. Caffe Greco makes a great cup of coffee, has desserts that pair perfectly with it, and has one of my favorite bagels in North Beach.
The cafe is a spot for locals and tourists to gather and appreciate the slowness of North Beach. So if you want to take a breather and relax for a bit, Caffe Greco is where we recommend.

City Lights Books - 261 Columbus Ave, SF. City Lights was at the center of censorship debates during the Beat Generation due to the banning and suppression of Queer coded poetry and literature. The Howl Obscenity Trial ultimately went to the Supreme Court where freedom of expression and art was upheld. Today, City Lights is a place where you can't help but buy a book when you step in. Find the corner where SF authors are featured and find yourself a new gem to get cozy with.
