📸 credits to Milky Way over the Stairway to Heaven on Madeira.

After a successful night of photography at Ponta do Rosto, we decided to head up to the mountains as the weather seemed again to be favourable for night photography. When we reached Pico do Arieiro, we checked where the Milky Way was positioned and realised it was slightly horizontal, not the most pleasing composition. But we quickly found a spot on the PR1 trail that lined up perfectly with the stars.

One challenge we faced was the bright lights coming from Funchal, Madeira's capital city. Although we couldn't see it with our naked eyes, when we took long exposure photos, we noticed a warm yellow glow covering the stars, which is called light pollution. Even though I tried my best to fix it in Lightroom, you can still see it on the right side of the picture.

This composite combines two images taken from the same place within one hour apart. The foreground was captured during the blue hour and the emergence of the Milky Way was shot after darkness falls.

My usual settings for night photography:
14mm f/2.8 1/25” ISO3200

The foreground is clearly visible thanks to a technique called long exposure, which makes nighttime photos look like they were taken during the day.

It is situated at the beginning of Vereda do Areeiro trail which is one of the most iconic hiking trails in Madeira. The viewpoint offers excellent views of Fajã da Nogueira, it is also, an amazing place for watching the sunrise 🌅

A praia é gratuita e tem duches, instalações sanitárias e um bar de apoio. A praia é caracterizada por algumas formações rochosas e é procurada pela temperatura e tranquilidade do mar característico da costa sul da Madeira.

🇬🇧Praia de São Tiago, also known as Praia do Arsenal is a small pebble beach located in the Old Town of Funchal. The beach is free and has showers, toilets and a bar. The beach is characterized by some rock formations and is sought after by the temperature and tranquility of the sea, characteristic of the south coast of Madeira.

The natural swimming pools of Porto Moniz are saltwater pools created in lava formations by the ocean, in the municipality of Porto Moniz. As the name suggests, the pools are filled naturally thanks to the generous tides of the ocean and waves that splash into them on days of rough seas. They are a popular tourist attraction and a great place for swimming and sunbathing. You can take some amazing photos there too!

You can get to Porto Moniz from Funchal by bus, car or on a tour with a guide. The Rodoeste bus is the way to go if you're looking for a budget-friendly option. The journey takes about 3 hours and 10 minutes, and the ticket price is around €5 . You can also rent a car and drive there yourself. The distance between Funchal and Porto Moniz is approximately 65 km.
The other Option would be going on a mix tour to Porto Moniz. The ticket will cost you around €39 and you will get a lot of stops on the way to Porto Moniz. This will help you to see much more within 8h of tour. For people who loves to meet other people this may be the way to go.

The Selvagens and desert islands in Madeira Archipelago are like hidden treasures waiting to be discovered by adventurous souls. It's impossible not to feel a surge of excitement as you approach these isolated havens, which are surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters that glisten under the blazing sunshine. The smell of salty air and an unfamiliar scent of exotic flora linger with every gust of wind, adding to the mysterious vibe that permeates throughout. As you set foot on the beach shore, it's easy to imagine yourself as Robinson Crusoe or even Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean! With endless opportunities for diving into the depths, exploring around secluded coves, hiking along treacherous cliffs and discovering hidden gems among nature - there is simply never a dull moment here!
