Here are 5 fascinating facts about growing tomatoes:

️⃣ Tomatoes are technically a fruit: From a botanical standpoint, tomatoes are classified as a type of fruit called a "berry."

️⃣ Tomatoes need friends: Tomatoes benefit from companion planting, which means they grow better when paired with other plants like basil, marigold, and borage.

️⃣ Soil temperature matters: Tomatoes thrive in soil with a temperature between 70°F (21°C) and 80°F (27°C). You can speed up soil warming by using black plastic mulch or row covers.

️⃣ Indeterminate vs. determinate: There are two main types of tomatoes: indeterminate (vining) and determinate (bush). Indeterminate varieties will keep producing fruit throughout the season, while determinate varieties produce one large crop.

️⃣ Tomatoes have a built-in clock: Tomatoes have an internal circadian rhythm that regulates their growth and development. This is why they tend to ripen in the morning.
