Another win as another Top Canadian University Deletes Nigeria from English Proficiency List after Protest Letter

The Athabasca University, Canada has removed Nigeria from its list of countries whose students have to present proof of English proficiency before admission

Nigerians seeking admission into the university will henceforth not be required to present IELTS, TOEFL and other English tests before enrollment

The latest recognition of Nigeria as an English-speaking country came after a protest letter sent to the institution by A Canada-based Nigerian academic, Dr Olumuyiwa Igblalajobi

The waiver came after Dr Igblajobi sent a protest letter to the school, enumerating reasons why Nigerians should not have to present an English test

According to him, since Nigeria teaches its children with English from elementary to tertiary level, this means Nigeria is an English-speaking country.
He also argued that English is the official language of business in Nigeria, hence no need for further tests

The school has now updated the list as it has recognised Nigeria as an English-speaking country

Note that Dr Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi also wrote to the University of Alberta, Canada demanding the removal of Nigeria from countries whose students must present prove of English before admission

And the school granted the demand of the Nigerian academic.

Remember, Dr Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi is a Nigerian man who left the shores of the country with just N16,000

He left his master's degree programme in Nigeria and started afresh abroad after winning a scholarship

5 Ways to Move to Canada from Nigeria in 2022

1. Get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) through Express Entry.
