🍝 Italy Dining Tips 🍝

Planning a trip to Italy?

One of the most daunting things in a foreign country can be eating out at a local restaurant. When everyone is speaking a different language and the menu is different than what you’re used to, it can be overwhelming.

Here are a few tips I always share with my clients to make their dining experience throughout Italy so much more relaxed!

→RESERVATIONS

•In Italy, reservations are a must! Almost all restaurants require them, even on weekdays. Make sure to call or email ahead.

→TIMING

•Italians dine late! While you might start dinner at 6:00 PM, locals usually start around 8:00 PM. Restaurants get lively the later you go.

→BASIC PHRASES

Learn a few Italian phrases:

•Hello/Goodbye: Ciao
•I would like: Vorrei
•Please: Per favore
•Thank you: Grazie

→ORDERING

•Ask for water (still or sparkling) - it’s not free!
•Order drinks first, then food.
•Try the local pasta dishes: carbonara, cacio e pepe, amatriciana, and pasta alla gricia.

→UNWIND & ENJOY

•Relax and savor your meal. There is no need to rush! Get the waiter’s attention if needed, as they won’t check on you often.

→REQUESTING THE CHECK

•Ask for the bill when ready.
•Be aware: bills are rarely split. Plan ahead for payment.

I’M GOING TO ST. LUCIA!!! I am elated to share that I’ve been selected to attend a luxury travel learning experience in St. Lucia! I am one of seven travel professionals participating in this exclusive, invite-only FAM trip. A “FAM trip”, short for familiarization trip, is an opportunity for travel advisors to gain firsthand knowledge and personal experience in a destination to better serve their clients.
