We are almost ready to start packing for our tour season. We get a lot of questions about the best suitcase, carry on bag etc. Since we are often gone for 2-3 months at a time efficiency is key for us. Only bringing what you need is super important. You can easily pick something up if you don’t have it. But think about each item and the likelihood and versatility of its use. Try to avoid items you will only use once. Especially if they take up a lot of space. Most likely you won’t need two outfits per day every day. Bring versatile items that mix and match and of course layering for all kinds of weather.
Will you be on and off trains or busses? Can you lift your own bag easily? What about wheels? The beautiful cobblestone streets of Europe will do in any loose wheels.
Good preparation can help prevent luggage mishaps (sometimes.) Other times a suitcase will come off the baggage carousel with an unexplained snapped handle. That’s just part of travel.
Get out and see the world. You don’t need to bring the kitchen sink.
We are only a few weeks away from the start of our fall season in Spain. After spending a few days in the great city of Barcelona we will explore the beautiful Costa Brava.

So what actually happens in the “art” part of our Art Walks? Well, each workshop is a little different than the others because Art Walks themselves are creative journeys. These images are a snippet from the student art journals created by our Art Walk Switzerland students with fabulous teacher Mary Beth Shaw.
We collaborate with our teaching artists so they may instruct and inspire students in a spontaneous response to the places and people we visit. Each workshop vacation is unique to the teacher, their style, and what we find along the way.
A common thread is the art journal - a book or set of pages created by each student during the trip. Art journals are infused with vibrant color, texture, ephemera, and experiences of the week’s adventures. There is no better souvenir to truly bring back the memories of your journey.
I know there’s lots of creators out there. What do you love about your art travel journals?
The day didn’t start out sunny but we had a great visit to the Trümmelbach Falls and a walk through the Lauterbrunnen valley.
We had great weather again today for our trip to Rigi Mountain for some walking.MaryBeth ShawStencilGirl Product’s

Sea views, coastal paths, great food and drink. Welcome to the Costa Brava. We are getting warmed up for our fall season starting in Barcelona, Spain on Sunday. ❤️🇪🇸 We still have a few spaces left for our 2025 tours. Link in the bio. 😁😎
Another fabulous week with wonderful artists. Many thanks to our #teachingartist @tammygilley for all the good energy and laughter and all of our student guests who played a part. In addition to our wonderful destinations and Tammy’s inspired #mixedmediaart classes, a thing our students repeatedly mentioned was how special it was to spend a week together - traveling, laughing, and sharing with one another. We feel privileged, not only to share the joy of travel with our guests, but to be a part of building a positive, creative community. Each smiling face is a new friend, and these are the best kind of riches. Looking forward to more of the same! #gratitude #followyourdreams #artworkshop #francevacation #smallgrouptravel #womenstravel

Another fun day. Wait until the end. Sound on. Would you sing with us? 🎶🎵 We love our Blue Walk peeps!
Another beautiful day! We visited Cannes and Ile St Honorat with @koosjekoene and her students. We started the day at #marcheforville, the daily open air market in Cannes. Located in the historic center, the market was a feast for the senses. Vendors selling produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, etc. offered everything to make a most amazing picnic. So who are we to say no? After time for a quick sketch, everyone picked out something enticing to share. We then set out on a wonderfully brief and breezy ferry ride to #ilesainthonorat. A mere 20 minutes from bustling Cannes, the car-free island sanctuary felt a world away. There, on a shady table with a view of the sea, we laid out our market bounty to reveal a gorgeous picnic feast. It is such a fun way to share a meal as well as the best locally produced food of the region. Surrounded by grape vines, olive trees, and chaparral, Koosje led a leisurely class using the many greens surrounding us as her inspiration.
We are spending a week on the French Riviera with teaching artist Koosje Koene and her students. We started with a walk into the old town. Then we stopped for a sampling of Niçoise specialties including socca, pissaladière, ricotta stuffed zucchini blossoms, and of course a taste of local rosé. Afterwards Koosje led a warm-up drawing session to get everyone loosened up for the week ahead. It’s a great group and already much fun is being had. Suzy and I happened upon a street performance by a traditional group practicing for an upcoming show. They were dancing and playing with a good deal of joie de vivre, and some of the onlookers were singing along with the tradition folk tunes. Then we settled in for a lovely dinner at one of our favorite places, La P’tite Cocotte. The menu for tonight: chilled tomato soup (a.k.a.; gazpacho), ravioli with Parmesan cream sauce, raspberry sorbet, and a lovely viognier- Suzy’s favorite white varietal. What’s not to love about Nice? 😍

Discovering the real balsamic vinegar. Aged for a minimum of 12 years in at least 5 different types of barrels (juniper, mulberry, cherry, oak, and chestnut) this magical elixir made with care and dedication by a dedicated artisan, and is a world away from the industrialized product readily available outside of Italy. It has got to be the most expensive (and delicious) gelato topping ever! #thebluewalk #bluewalkitaly
