Ten days earlier than last year. Right on time in a historical context, the first river crossings are starting to kick through. The leading herds have reached the Mara River in the Northern Serengeti, with the main body still to come.

The biggest misconception is that the herds cross once northbound, then again once southbound. The reality is that they shift to and fro, north to south as they follow the rains, the replenished grasslands and quality feed. Resident in the Lamai wedge, Mara Triangle and Northern Serengeti for the coming months. Before the late October and November rains draw them to the short grass plains in the South.

Great footage by guided by of Alex Walker Serengeti of the first crossing of the season at Number Four, Serengeti.
