Back to doing what I love most!

The finest fly fishing for ocean triggerfish I’ve seen. This fishery has numbers, size and enthusiasm to take a fly when presented well.

Last week had hints of fantastic on-foot fly fishing for Permit. I’ve just scratched the surface there. Can’t wait to figure out more of the puzzle in June. I’ve got a hunch when the swell isn’t 8 feet, there may be many, many more shots at happy fish.

Oh, and schools of 7-8lb bonefish milling about. And the camping was sublime. Perfect.

Theres a few short vertical vids I want to edit from this trip and then it’s on to the new endeavor of a long-form, landscape vlog recap of the week. Stay tuned !

I had an abdomen ultrasound last week, theres a ct scan scheduled for next week, but this week?

This week I’m heading to the great unknown in hopes of fly fishing for Permit.

I’ve got 3 rods, 3 reels, my snorkel, a weeks worth of food, a brand new sawyer straw (water filter), my tent, an inflatable inner tube rated for 300lbs, a pvc anchor spike for said tube, and lots of lucky flies. And, allegedly, permission to be dropped off on an uninhabited island and camp solo.

Back to WiFi February 15. Gotta believe !

-fortunately, health wise I should be totally fine - lingering pseudoappendicitis issues from a yersinia infection / parasite !

A dream come true last night! Fly fishing for Red Kaloi on the big screen in Atlanta.

Thank you to all the wonderful friends and family that showed up!

Thank you to Ryan for his incredible filmmaking skill and hard work to bring this to fruition. And for flying across the country to make the premier! This film started 18 months ago on a guided day in Alaska (last slide). Our new friendship has been a wonderful bonus.

Thank you to Ming, Fajar, Liah, Rayong and all of the Dayak crews that have made these fishing adventures possible.

And thank you to Reptile and E for their friendship and can-do attitude when it comes to fishing places most folks are scared of!

The film covers what it takes to fly fishing for Red Kaloi in the jungles of Borneo. I am stoked to share the story of this captivating fish, the intoxicating jungle and rivers it calls home, and the Dayak guides and crew that make the fishing possible.

The Drake Magazine was a crucial part of my early fascination with fly fishing. It helped me believe that I could get better and experience the far flung adventures in its pages.

In September, followed me back. Flattered, I pinned a thank you message along the lines of the above paragraph. Tom replied and mentioned there would be small blurb on me in the next issue.

I was in the fetal position on a stilt house questioning my life choices when the fall issue hit newsstands but got my hands on a copy just before Christmas. A lil dream come true!

Thanks yall! And shoutout my TikTik homie for the kind words. Go Dawgs!

If you don’t take it seriously, what’s the point ?

Although, I got Dengue fever and lost 20 lbs twice in 2024, so maybe I should be a tad less dramatic in 2025.

fly fishing for giant trevally, tarpon, bonefish, jungle oddities, roosterfish, salmon and more. I love it! What a year!

I glass a big rump in the adjacent field through a gap in the trees close to sunset.

Too big compared to the closer does. Waiting. Waiting. A head glimpse. Buck.

Now to get him closer before dark. 3 grunts. Grab binos. Nothing. 3 more grunts. Binos. Nothing. Some does 100 yards out stomp. Others run.

I roar 3 grunts. Grab binos. Dude is running at me. Crosses the tree line. Crosses the high brush. Into the clearing. Head on. Glaring at the location of the grunts.

All the does spook. Big boy bolts but stops broadside. He wants to fight.

In the twilight, I walk up and confirm he really does like to fight. 8 points became 6 over this fall.

Huge thanks to and the Barrow fam for having me this weekend and so many other times in the past. GO DAWGS !

Striper Camp 2024 - bitterly cold and sluggish fish but Richie got his first ever striper on fly so that’s all that matters.

Fly fishing for striper is awesome, and the Humpback Whales wreaking havoc within sight of the beach is the coolest nature moment I’ve seen all year.

“I literally s**t into my balls a few days ago. That was just bonus, tho. Gnarly fever, wracking cough and aches for 4 days. Then firehose. Thought I might have to medi vac. Was so dehydrated I didn’t p*e for 2 days. I wrote out a mini retirement post. lol.”

- Text sent November 8th, 2024 while wallowing in filth on the deck of a long haul ferry somewhere off the coast of Papua.

This ordeal spooked me. I’ve had my share of travel illnesses, and I feel great now, but I’m going to honor a plea I made with myself during the drama. My body needs a change.

Thanks to the finest friends and superb clients, I’ve been on the road or destination guiding essentially non-stop since May 2021. It’s become a fish filled dream come true of a life. Y’all are the best.

A lil striper fishing next week and then I’m hitting the gym and editing footage til February. An off-season is calling, baby.

I spent the start of November sick as dog, but against all odds my body rallied and I actually fished this new area in West Papua the past few days. And it absolutely slaps. My gosh.

Right now, we’re working whatsapp to see if the ongoing fuel shortage will mean an early end to the adventure or if I can finesse a few more days of angling (and still make it back in time to cheer when our Dawgs maul the vols)

Here’s to a few more days of fly fishing for bonefish, triggers and giant trevally! Gotta believe!

Back to the jungle tonight, baby!

We start with a week of fly fishing for Red Kaloi and then we will head up river in search of Mahseer. A 50lb blue Mahseer is dancing in my dreams.

I decided on the flight over I’m going to attempt a tan as my new years resolution. A month in the jungle seems like a good opportunity. I’ll keep y’all updated.

Off the grid until January 22.

After our time here in Borneo, it’s
a short Singapore stopover and then, fish god willing, we will head to Laos to chase wolf barb. Gotta believe!!
