Today is my birthday. Waking up in Greece was a gift.
I started my morning with the most peaceful swim. The sea was calm, clear, and chilly. If I could wake up like this every day, I would. I drove to Piso Livadi for coffee and breakfast with a friend who greeted me with fresh flowers from her garden.
When I returned back “home,” I decided to try something new, SUP (stand-up paddle board.) i don’t know why I was nervous, but I was. I’m so glad I pushed myself (along with Gianna) to go and do it. It was fun gliding on top of the sea. I think I did pretty well.
Next up was a visit to Faragas Beach to meet up with two new friends. This beach was quiet and perfect. I had another lovely dip in the Aegean and then practiced my Greek-speaking.
Tonight I got to celebrate with my good friend Gianna, who shares the same birthday.🥰 We went to a friend's house and another friend cooked for us. It was the perfect day and I am super grateful to celebrate another year on this planet.

Solo travel; Intimidating or Exciting? 🧳 🌍️

It was the beginning of June. I had just hiked for 3 hours, had dinner, and then was waiting for the bus to take me back up the hill where my car was parked. It was a fantastic hike through the hills and countryside on the island of Amorgos🇬🇷. As I was figuring out how to buy a bus ticket, I met Michail, a Greek guy from Thessaloniki visiting Amorgos. We immediately got along. He was chatting with the bus driver, Tasos, and another guy, Vasilis, whom he had become friends with just a few days prior. After we all got off the bus in the Village of Langkada, he invited me for a drink with the three of them. I glanced down at myself. I wasn’t dressed for anything other than a shower at my hotel. So, at first, I declined. And then I thought, “Come on, Jen, why not?” I am glad I listened to that inner voice. It turned into a really lovely night, with great conversation and raki, a local liquor. And that was just the start of new friendships. (including dinner a few days later, pictured.)
When I’m in Greece, my heart is full, like bursting from the seams 💗—so many moments filled with amazing encounters. I have met so many interesting people and had such great conversations. Some of them I exchanged info with, and some I did not, but each moment was one that I wanted to take a snapshot of and pin it up on the wall of my life. These are the moments that I live for. Greece is where I feel most alive, where I continue to learn the language, the culture, and where I find new things that fascinate me.
The energy of the islands are like being inside a mystical time warp that connects directly with the divine. It’s where I feel at home, present, aligned, and in wonder.

I travel solo almost every time I visit Greece. Even though I am alone, I am not really alone. It creates an opportunity for me to meet locals and others who are traveling. It allows me to slow down, listen to my intuition, and do what feels right, on my own terms.

Overlooking Aegiali, one of two ports on the island of Amorgos. After visiting both port areas of the island I think that I prefer this end of the island. But it's a tough choice because the whole island is gorgeous and has a very laid-back, chill vibe.

🧿 3 Reasons to Visit the Island of Paros in October 1. The island will be quiet, and you will have more space to breathe in the island's true, authentic beauty and personality. 2. While the weather is often unpredictable, you will likely have some sunny, beautiful days where you can locate the best beach based on the direction of the wind and enjoy a nice swim without the crowds. 3. You will find better prices for accommodation and car rentals, and fewer people booking, so more availability. You will also find many of the stores will offer sales. Extra tips! Grab a sweater and a light jacket for your night stroll on the beach or the small streets of Parikia. I suggest packing layers and having options to be best prepared for the warm and the cooler days. Rain is also slightly possible, but sitting on the veranda and watching the rain come down into the Aegean Sea is beautiful.
