Casa do Cisne is located in Silves. Silves is a small town, which was originally the ancient capital of the Algarve. Under the Moors (9th-12th century), Silves was a major defensive stronghold and important trading center, with boats sailing down the Arade river and crossing to North Africa.

Today, Silves is a peaceful and unhurried small town with remains of this illustrious past, seen by the imposing red brick castle, impregnated town walls and Gothic Cathedral built on the site of a magnificent mosque. Silves is a joy to visit and pretty unknown to the mass tourism of the Algarve.
